Spirit announced another new change. They are going with (more lightweight) non-reclining seats, or as they are calling them "pre-reclined seats".

While I hate Spirit, the CEO does have a point. So many people seemed to be obsessed with carrying all their crap on the plane. The bin is made and meant for a small personal item, not a heavy ass supposedly "carry on" packing case with all your worldly possessions. I have been on more than a few Southwest flights where theses packing overachievers that insist on carrying everything on delay the departure. Their arguing about having to gate check makes the flight pull out 10 minutes or more late. I think everybody who insists on doing that should get a chance to be hit on the head by their luggage. Hard. Maybe that will inspire them to put luggage where it belongs. UNDER THE FOOKIN PLANE.

Agree totally with Brother MrLV. My flight down last week had some mere slip of a gir1 bring a "carry-on" bag she could have used as housing. It took some beefcake guy to cram that sucker into the overhead. I could have put enough clothes in it for a month-long trip and never visited a lavanderia.

Yeah but you guys miss the point....

Baldanza CREATED the problem by beginning to charge for checked bags. He was crafty as he slowly turned the screws by incrementally increasing the price...compelling his customers to consider a carry-on only option. Now that he CREATED the market for carry-on...he starts to charge for it. Very smart businessman. A scumbag, but very smart.

As to the NON reclining seats...I flew in them last week...they are in the brand new A320 planes...the planes still have their "new plane" smell...but the seats are uncomfortable. To be honest the old seats don't go more than 3 inches back anyway...and I have seen quite a few arguments and even fights when a big guy shoe-horned into the sardine can of a space in coach gets his knees slammed by the passenger in front.

Its amazing the indignity one suffers to fly cheap!

If my seat is hitting the knees of the person in back of me, that's the airlines fault or the passengers fault, not mine. I'm using my seat as it was designed to be used. If you're so tall you're knees are bumping into my seat, the airlines need to design seats for the tall. If they're bumping because you're carrying too many pounds around, that's your fault, not mine. I don't act like an asshole about it, but if someone complains, I tell them to call a stewardess and let them know. Let them deal with it, I didn't cause the problem.

I don't take a position on reclining vs. non--what bugs me is not having those little wings at the seat top be so used as to be non functional. I pull those forward to rest my head against for napping and Spirit's planes don't work half the time. We get pissy about the smallest things , don't we?
