dummer Mensch:

Just like DiegoC notes, I didn't argue with them in the slightest. I requested it be stamped. I never pointed to the other stamps; rather, THEY commented on them. When she said "NO", I put it back in my briefcase. It was her decision to call El Jeffe.....not mine. And I'll make the same request the next time I'm back. Only one other time was it NOT stamped and that request was refused yet again by another twunt. Seems like the late night shift are far more mellow and agreeable than the 11:20am shift.

Besides, aren't you the ever so delightful fellow who got "kidnapped" by Policia and driven all over town and let off in ummmmm.....the ghetto? I'd still like to know who you pissed off to get that treatment; there was a lot missing from your ever so innocent tale of woe!!! Aren't you the fellow who seemingly is always finding his way into one spat after another with people of "authority" in that Nation what with your GUEST status and all? Shall I search the message board for your protestations of innocence in all the transgression perpetrated against you by The Man?! None of that jive has EVER occurred to me. Suggest you follow your own advice. And, please, get the fucck off of my cloud......I learned a LONG time back....NEVER disagree with Mr. Charlie even when you're right.....saves a lot of time, trouble, and headache. Maybe next time you'll get "kidnapped" and ........

Oh....and just to keep the matter in perspective I was asked how long I was going to be there; I stated 15 days; and I was given 30. Not complaining....just providing intel is what I am doing.

Although I may have my fun on this message board, I do NOT have "fun" when I am around Mr. Charlie. Ask Pops....he saw me in action when I was stopped by La Policia due to being in HIS (Pop's!!!) company! hahahahahahahahaaha :P :P :P Wasn't I just about the most compliant not under arrest guy you have ever seen Pops? Meanwhile, Pops is PROTESTING "I LIVE HERE!!!!" ..... hahahahahahahahahaaha

I hate to say it, but it's kind of a jackass move to argue "But these other guys have stamped my passport copy before". The reason is that a) It can get those immigration agents in trouble, therefore ensuring they will never do it again, and b) makes it more likely the supervisor will make a stink about it to others and not allow them to do it. So by arguing that, you're actually making it HARDER for anyone else to get stamps on their copies in the future.

Still, to keep on topic...

I just arrived from the USA last week at SJO. I have about 20 exits over 3 years on my passport. I'm definitely in the "Perpetual Tourist" category. The immigration agent asked me how many days I was staying, and I said 90. He gave me a 90 day visa. I think they are giving 30 day visas by default.

Odd, since that's not what you said the first time. Let me quote what you said:

despite the fact I have had the color copy hand stamped 4 other times and so showed him.

So, since you claim you didn't point out the other stamps, why did you say "and so showed him"? That clearly indicates that you were pointing them out to him, thus my comment. If that's not what happened, then I suggest you state what happened a bit more clearly, since there is a clear discrepency between what you claim now from what you claimed then.

There is nothing missing, and that's exactly what happened. I didn't piss anyone off nor did I argue with them. I'm not sure what you're getting at. I've already explained the situation, so if you feel something is missing, i'd be curious to know what it is.

I've had a few, but I wouldn't call them "altercations". Most people on this board spend a week here, a few times a year. I go downtown at least once a week. There is much more opportunity for me to encounter police than the average board member that doesn't live here. Many of the other board members that DO live here only seem to be downtown during the day, which is also much less likely to have "altercations". I work during the day, and can only get downtown after 9 or 10pm, which is prime "gringo hunting" time.

How much time do you spend in the gulch in a year? I've lived in Costa Rica for 3 years now. I guarantee you, if you spend a lot of time there, especially at night, you will get harassed by the police every once in a while.

I also don't recall making "protestations of innocence". I don't recall ever once saying "I was innocent!". In the particular case you're referring to above, my only "crime" was that my entry stamp was not very legible, but there was nothing I could do about that. I didn't notice how poorly it was imprinted until after i was through immigration.

Which is also not quite what you implied in your original messge. The thread was talking about people requesting a 90 day visa and being told they could only have 30. You stated you got a 30 day visa, which implied you were one of those people. Your clarification puts things more in perspective, since you told them you were only staying for 15 days, a 30 day visa is perfectly understandable. If you had told them 90 days, they probably would have given you a 90 day visa.

How so? I believe I answered, in quite a bit of detailed, anyone that had questions about it. Perhaps you haven't read the whole thread.

Well I came back from Boston yesterday after a week there. I had NO PROBLEM with Immigration in either the States or here. I just handed my passport and customs and immigration forms to the agent and he looked them over and stamped the passport and hand wrote "90 days" on the stamp.

I just came across another article about the changes in the rules for immigration. Actually I still don't understand what we so-called "Perpetual tourists need to do.
