Hello Everyone,

Total newbie here. I am going to CR in June, can't wait! I have been to CR before but never to party with the chicas in San Jose. If I were to stay in SJ for 1 or 2 nights would you recommend Sportmans or Del Rey? I am just looking for some nice female company, and hopefully a relaxing time before I hit the beaches of Manuel Antonio. Any advice there would be appreciated. Also, how critical is Spanish? I know a bit but I doubt I could negotiate for an extended period with the ladies.

Thank You

Necro

MY 2 cents:

Necro, When I was in SJ, If the HDR was like Bagdad, the SL was like the green zone. Kinda depends where you want to spend your time? Dodging bombs all day or relaxing a bit and dodging some sporadic gun fire.
For me, I wanted to experience staying at the world famous HDR for my first trip, but the price of the rooms alone put a stop to that idea. You will find a lot of post on CRT that steer newbies away from staying at the HDR. Just depends what you want out of the trip and your budget. I didn't get a room at either of the the venues, but I spent most of my time eating and hanging out in them.

You mentioned you wanted to relax. IMO the SL has a way more relaxed feel to it along with cute P4p chicas, a nice stocked bar, cute bartender chicas, good food, T.V's , a pool table and a Sportsbook service (so you can bet on games if that's your thing). A lot of members hang out at the SL bar so there is plenty potential to gain information about the SJ scene over a few beers. Ask around the forum and you'll get plenty of input on the SL .

The amount of p4p girls at the HDR (while I was in town) highly outnumbered that of the SL both during the day and at night. The HDR is Larger in size then the SL with plenty more bar space and dinning tables. A lot of crt members hang out at the HDR bar also so there is plenty potential to gain information about the SJ scene over a few beers there also ( DR/KL bartenders are hot!). HDR has a casino (slots, cards, roulette) and the Key Largo dance club is directly across the street w/plenty of Chicas. Not to metion a lot of street hustlers directly outside it's doors. Ask around the forum and you'll get plenty of input on the HDR .

The SL is a CRT sponsor and they provide discounts to VIP members (rooms, drinks, food).

The HDR, as far as I know, provides no discounts. The HDR also charges a "Chica fee"

The SL is more relaxed then the HDR and the room rates, food and drinks are less expensive. More bang for your buck in the long run (pun). Just depends what your looking for though. FYI (The SL is 7 minute walk or a $2 taxi ride from the HDR)

Of those 2 choices, it's no doubt the SL. Especially for someone new to SJO there is no better experience--not as many amateur fun seekers thus better, more knowledgeable companionship with other guys, I think they screen the Chicas more carefully AND Bill is just a great host.

My 2 cents as a 1st timer who just got back from a stay at the SL...I would pick neither and stay at the Hotel Little Havana. They have a nice selection of girls and you will only have to pay 25 an hour for their company. Having a good experience with one of these girls with give you a good feel of what you think you should pay for a girl at the Sportsmens Lodge or DelRey (both are easily within walking distance or cab fare) who will probably be able to mark you as a newbie and start asking for outrageous prices. Since you are only staying a couple nights it may not really matter to you, but it's what i would have done knowing what I know now.

Hotel Little Havana, $25hr with room, you'll find one that speaks enough english to take to the beach. No chica fees so bring one from SL or HDR after the little darlings go home at 9pm.

As far as a place to stay, between the two it's definitely the Sportsman Lodge. Go to both places and check out the chicas. There are good and not so good at both places. IMO, the SL has a much more relaxed atmosphere. If you don't find the chica you just can't pass up at one place, you'll probably find her at the other.
