I'm not kidding. I was browsing thru several sights to try to book a trip to SJO in 3 or 4 months and I saw a flight with this price. It was on a sight I never heard of before called "Fly There 4 Less." Plus it was on US Air beleive it or not. But another site had the same flight for $400. That's still too high. Why would they post this? Am I missing something? You would have to be far beyond insane to book this flight--or awfully horny.

But I need some help. All the cheap flights from ORD to SJO that were posted 2 weeks ago are gone. The only flights I can find in the $300 or lower range have crazy times or overnight layovers. I've tried all the usual sites I have found cheap flights on. Anyone have info on where I can still find cheap flights?

What do you consider "crazy times" - what are good times? Many would have differing opinions on this. If you're asking for help, you need to be a little more specific about what you are looking for and when and how long. Seriously, there are two many variables...

I don't want to get complicated about this. I am just asking if anyone's seen a site with low ORD to SJO prices.

I have no idea what the cabin is like though, so if the seats are crappy, don't blame me. :) SR

I won't. Thanks

There are a lot of variables in this. However...

A wednesday/wednesday round trip in july (off-peak days, with a saturday night stay) can be had for $237 from mexicana. Check sidestep.com

And always remember, it could be worse. $550 RT from SAN (where I live) to SJO is what I consider a phenomenal deal.

SR

I saw the same fare on Mexicana using Kayak, but again, maybe those were the flight times he considered "crazy"(I didn't think they were bad - seemed like a couple of good options depending on your preferences - red-eye to get you to SJO early or afternoon flight gets you in later)

Websites I check for airfares:

atiflights.com
kayak.com
cheapoair.com

Friends of mine have even used travelocity "last minute packages" for trips to CR that package both airfare and hotel for trips within 2 weeks of booking.

Have flown Mexicana into Mexico City on a few occasions and never had any issues. No issues with taking off on time either.

If you typically fly any of the major US airlines (Continental, AA, Delta, etc ) I don't think you have to worry about worse on-time reliability and customer service :P

All right. Here are the times I am looking for. I am leaving on 8/10 and I would like to leave early , before 6 and get there about 2 that day. I am leaving 4 days later and would like to leave at about 1pm but would settle for as early as 10a. In either case I would like to arrive back the same day. No overnight layovers. Until now I have always found flights ORD to Sjo and back at these times in the $300 range. Now I can't even come close. If I could get any help I would appreciate it.

Again, I just ran those exact dates and times on the Continental web site and the fare is $339
depart at 8am arrive at 2pm on 8/10 return 8/14 depart 11:50am arrive 8:09pm

including taxes of 89.55 total ticket $428

If you stay over until Monday the fare is available at $248 plus tax for a total of $337.55 But it says there are only two seats at this price.

Hope that helps. The weekend stay over usaully helps on the fare. I have also found that searching early in the morning helps on fares also. dont know why but seems to work?

Good Luck

I found what I want. Got it on Hotwire. It has the times I wanted for $330. On the return I have 2 stops but that's OK because there is no overnight layover. Plus most on the flights are on Cont. which I like although the last leg of the return is on AA.

This is far and away the best deal I saw after searching for 6 days and it is comparable to the packages I usually get when I go to CR. I thank you all for the suggestions.

start checking again on May 10-12. When the 90-day barrier is broken, seat maps are assigned and the airlines' fare computers switch into high gear for the flight, adjusting prices as seats are sold/not sold as expected.SR

Thanks for this info. I'll remember that when I try to book again. But if you look above I found the package I was looking for , with the times and price I was hoping for. So I don't have to change my plans.
