Mickeymoose--A little more info would be appreciated. Stella Artois is not the be-all and end-all of Belgian beers.

Stella sucks. The Pub/Spaghetti House has Leffe and Hoegaarden.

The Auto Mercados have a decent selection of German beers especially the Hefewiezens. Also a good selection of Mexican beers.

Still have not been able to locate any good Red Ale's although Stan's Irish Pub does serve a great selection.

There is also a new Bar / Restuarante between Downtown SJ and San Pedro called La Mochila. It is on the corner and they advertise Cervezas de todo del mundo y torres nuevas. Looking forward to checking it out con mis amigos and reporting back.

Also, has anyone been to this place yet? Check it out....I want to soon

That link doesn't work, at least for my computer. Any feedback? Also, where's Stan's Irish Pub in relation to the HDR? I'm something of a beer connoisseur, and I guess I'm a bit spoiled living here in CA, with all the microbreweries/specialty bars we have here. It seems like an abundance or good beer is the only thing lacking in CR... hopefully I'll be proven wrong.

You will not get good beer in Costa Rica, but you will get beer. Beer snobbery is for fags. Drink some Imperial and get some pu*sy.

Beer snobbery in the US (where you can get good beer) is OK, if not carried to an extreme. Compare Chimay to either Imperial, Bavaria, or Pilsen ..... no comparison. I bring a few bottles of Chimay + 1 bottle of Laphroaig each trip. But at the bar at SL, gimme an Imperial and a glass of ice, and then some pu*sy!

Nothing wrong with appreciating good beer. Bringing a bottle of St. Bernardus Abt 12 to a cookout, however, is slightly douchey behavior. I am probably the most knowledgeable person on beer on CRT, but I can still enjoy a Rock Ice while ogling some young, hot poon. Enjoying the local flavor is part of the whole experience.

I can't drink the light pale pilsners that pass for beer in the US. The light beers are even worse. They just have zero flavor. But I can drink some American beers, mostly microbrews and a few mass produced like Shiner. But I love good Imperial or a Bavaria dark, I funnel those down constantly when I am in CR.

Are they much better than light American pilsners? Better yes, but not much better. But I find I like the beer down there, it must be the atmosphere that makes them feel better - meaning being surrounded by hot chicas who are on the market makes everything in life better.

Whoa dude! Not sure if that was aimed at me or K-Paxian, but I'm defintitely not going to CR for the drinks. I was just curious if they had anything other than Bud Light, and if so, where I could find it. I'll make sure to try the local brews while I'm there -- I'm never afraid to try something new. I can survive a week without good drinks, so long as I'm getting tons of poon every night... I do have my priorities, you know.

Try this site--the listing is from 2008 but you might get (beer) lucky. Also there is a pretty good Nicaraguan beer called Tonia that's somewhat available--try Harry's Bar Poas for example.

There used to be another brewpub called K & S Cerveceria run by German brewmasters but evidently that got closed down--more's the pity,
