If you are referring to the Gran Hotel Costa Rica next to the national theater they do not allow female guests period. No chica fee just no chicas.

...So from what I'm reading here make sure she looks like a guy and you'll do fine...baritone voice on her part NOT optional...and it would be good if the person had an androgynous name like Tracy..."Biff" would be better. We've had pix here of Chicas who could easily qualify...

I always wanted to stay at this hotel but the no chicas rule put an end to that notion.

I stayed there on my 2nd trip back in 99. I think the fee was $20 back then. But, I never returned... had nothing to do with the fee... Rooms had "smoky odor" (I'm a non-smoker), the rooms had no AC, left the window open for the breeze. Downstairs/right outside the window, some guy played music for tips til 2am, noisy. Staff wasn't very friendly.

Now-a-days, I actually book 2 rooms in CR... one for play, one for sleep & phone calls from home. I tend to sleep at a nicer hotel, will have Castillo/Dunn Inn for play. I'm domestically challenged, so it's outta need, not just a waste of money!

The hotel was sold and completely renovated about 5 years ago so what was so in "99 ain't so now and that includes the atmosphere and ambiance of Plaza de Cultura on which the hotel sits. Also rooms are now about $90.00 per night.
