I just heard this.
Continental offering $194 round trip from Chicago to SJO.
For this kind of price you could afford that HDR Colombiana you've always wanted :D

I'm from Indianapolis and flew from Chicago on Mexicana for $200. Fares are routinely below $300 out of Chitown.

This price you saw is plus taxes. You're looking at about another $90. You can do better on Mexicana.

I am not a very smart man but I still live here???? Again why I have no idea why. As for the $190 fare yes it is plus taxes but CO is a great airline IMHO.

The mexicana flights were at about $246. I would pay the extra $40 to go on Continental. AA also has the same fare ($4 more). Mexicana has limited options versus AA or Continental and 3+ hour layovers. I have flown all three. Just get a plane with a mechanical issue with Mexicana and the return options are very limited. AA and Continental are the two I choose out of Chicago. AA thru Miami sometimes experiences delays if there is bad weather. I usually give myself a 2 hour connection time coming and going thru Miami.

Hey...Hey...Hey...Wait a minute......I resemble that remark. There are advantages to living in Chicago, just not in December thru March. One of the advantages is to be able to score airfares to SJO/Paradise almost at anytime of the year between $ 280 and $ 320.

There are the dreaded, two insanely hot summer weeks we always seem to have. But really, all other times, other then those noted above make this one of the best cities to live in or near.

Low air fares are just an added bonus. It is the less than one hour connection that CO airlines has going to and from that should not be forgotten. Time Vs $$$$ should never be overlooked. A smooth and reliable connection can be worth its wieght in Gold, especially on the way there! That 5:30 am flight from ORD is always sitting ther waiting, fueled up, Maint. check list done and ready to go Never a delay or missed connection. It couldnt get easier then flying thru Houston. One of the best airports to fly thru, IMHO.

After 8 trips to SJO out of ORD, it seems to me Continental is the preferred airline. Have taken Continental 2 times and each time has been the 5:30 am departure. Departure is like clockwork and connection in Houston also like clockwork. Also, with the other 4 to 5 flights out of Houston to SJO, seems to me that you would at least have chance of still getting to SJO the same day if there was a problem with original flight or connecting flight.

Have flown AA 3 times.....2 out of the 3 have had delays and 1 time had to spend the night in Miami. So between the typical AA mechanical cancellation russian roulette and potential weather delays out of Miami and/or DFW, AA is no longer an option for me and never again. Flew Spirit one time thru FLL, and with only a 40 minute connection time and it being their only flight to SJO per day, it was way too stressful and never again.

Flew Delta 2 times and was OK, but I think they only have 1 flight out after you get to ATL and that doesn't get to SJO until 8:40 pm. Plus they seemed to be very expensive lately. So not really an option.

Already booked for flight May 13-17 on Continental at $ 263 RT. Lowest fare I have paid in 9 trips and seems to be the best airline. That's a WIN WIN.

I agree with the Continental experiences. Good airline for SJO.

I like Continental, and connections in Houston are usually no problem. During the summertime, thunderstorms can be an issue for flights in and out of IAH in the afternoon.

Based on a quick look at the schedule, Delta has two flights into SJO from Atlanta, one just before noon, and the one just before 9pm flight. You'd have to get to ATL before 9a to connect to the early flight. I was able to get a $301 (after all taxes and fees) ticket for April, which wasn't the cheapest option for me, but one that makes sense for frequent flyer status, and possible upgrades.

What's the deal with Continental? Price from Chicago to CR is usually 1/2 the price from Houston to CR.

I noticed that on an US Air flight through Charlotte, the Charlotte leg was $300 more. I can only surmise that they were trying to fill the Indianapolis -Charlotte plane.

i've flown Mexicana for $200. I liked the seats in which the bottom moved forward while the seatback reclined. I was fed on both legs, and the duty-free shops were plentiful and cheap ($93.00 for 4 1 ltr premium booze) I flew out of the international terminal, arrived 3 hrs beforehand, spent 2 & 1/2 hrs waiting as I had my pick of three security checkpoints (Eenie, einie, Minie, Moe)

The downside was the landing at the end of the concourse, having to go through immigration. You must ask for help in Mexico city as the entrance I was supposed to take said, "Mexicana Domestic". Like an idiot I took the one that said, "Mexicana International" and wound up headed into security again.

I booked for three months and return on the 14th. I am concerned that they still have my reservations.

Continental? Twice. First time, landed late, conveyor belt from int to domestic was broken down, I exited Int'l as my connecting flight was leaving. Had the night from hell in Houston, arrived the next day, my luggage arrived two days later.

Second trip...return on segment from Houston, flight 1/2way, turned back as engine was, "out of limits" ie: running hot. I arrived a 3am.
