The beach is pretty similar all up and down, doesn't matter much where you are. I think there are some volleyball nets at the north end of the beach just past the Copa. The water is notoriously polluted. I took a big mouthful after being pounded by a wave attempting to surf and ended up with an industrial strength case of diarrhea. It was the rainy season so I'm guessing it's probably worse at that time, but who knows. Try not to do what I did or you'll be hanging close to the toilet till the meds kick in.
If you go just south of Playa Jaco there is Playa Hermosa which is pretty nice with some pretty fierce waves. There's a pretty good bar there right on the beach, the Backyard Bar, good place to have a few cocktails with some pretty good appetizers too. It's an easy cab ride or if you rent a scooter it's easily reachable. Will be there in a month!

I prefer to do my swimming in the pools, and do my 'strolling' on the beach....I usually chill a the Copa pool, and go for walks from there.

the Bohio is right on the beach, right in the middle of town, serves inexpensive drinks and even food. I like it, when forced to spend time in Jaco (too hot and sticky for comfort).

Do your self a favor and get down to Manuel Antonio National Park. The Hotlel Villa Teca is a nice place and only a few minutes ride to a place called Mar y Sombra that is a hotspot for nightlife. Great beaches there.
