Hi, I'm looking for ideas for getting from the airport SJO to Jaco Beach. This is the first time we are going straight to Jaco, normally we stay in SJ for a day or two then head to Jaco either by Bus or by shuttle van. Our first option is to rent a car at the airport and drive to Jaco, use it for the 4 days we are there then return it at the airport and take a cab back to SJ for the last 3 nights. Or Take a buss or a shuttle van to Jaco then rent a car there and take a buss or shuttle back to SJ. I am leaning towards the shuttle van to and from but I would like to hear some of the experts. There are 3 of us on this trip in May, two vets and a first timer. Any info would be great Thanks

I would take an air conditioned van via costaricawelcome.com. A guy named Jose runs it and all his drivers are cool and speak decent english. Request Tony if lots of horn beeping doesn't bother you. He will get you there the quickest:)

That sounds like a good tip but check out other guys in the List Dependable Drivers Thread in this Forum.

I would go with a taxi or this private shuttle service a previous poster mentioned (www.costaricawelcome.com). They charge $99 from San Jose to Jaco. It's probably the same from the airport to Jaco. This rate is for up to 6 people.

Interbus is $29/person, so it makes sense to take a taxi or private shuttle if you have 3 people.

In Jaco, you don't need a car, you can walk from one end of Jaco to the other. You don't need a car. Taxi everywhere, it's dirt cheap. You don't want to worry about crackheads breaking into your rent-a-car. (You know that you pay for everything, up to the deductible amount, even with insurance.)

Why, with the new road, does it still cost $100 to get to Jaco? It takes one hour less round trip and I'm sure a lot less fuel.

Thanks for the info, I checked out some of the shuttle services and I think we are going to go with Costa Rica Welcome. we are still going to rent a car in Jaco, last time we went with Budget Car Rental But they held the $1000 credit card deposit for 5 days and that cut into my play money. Your right Orange, the car is not for Jaco it is to get out of Jaco and see some of the country.

We were in Sarchi so took the old route on a couple of Saturdays ago and there was no one on the road. It took about 2 hours from San Jose, and we did pick up the new road section (enough to pay the 500 colony toll).
