Hi Guys,

I have been slung into first the Crown Plaza and then a week later the Intercontinental Real by my firm's travel agency for an upcoming couple of weeks of meetings and talk-fest. I haven't stayed at either in the past, and was wondering what the in-house watering holes were like, and if there was a chance of running into any indy's girls at either establishment.

Now I know these are not the sort of place to expect to be able to stumble back at 2 am with a pair of girls tucked under each arm, and even if they were, there will be colleagues a-plenty (who I don't care to share info about my recreational pursuits with) most days, so I am prepared if necessary to head out to the DR or SL with my shaving bag in a back pack, and then book into a room on the fly for some serious mischief if there is no other option.

So can anyone give me a heads-up on what sort of drought I might experience, and what remedial steps I should start planning now?

I'm also off to Dominical for an overnight and perhaps also Jaco ... any recommendations on single guy type accommodations and drinking spots would be most welcome.

Cheers

Dave

For daytime jaunts there are a few MPs nearby but night time activities would probably be somewhat limited. A taxi ride from the Crown Plaza to SL or DR is cheap and quick after the rush-hour traffic has abated. It will be a little longer and more expensive from the Intercontinental. Good luck!

Get a room at Dunn Inn or Amistad out of your own pocket downtown...don't worry about being seen by your compadres...

There's' always the Hotel Asia around the corner from the Del Rey, or the Eden hotel a short 5 min taxi ride from teh Del Rey, ask for a "hydro room"
nice set up for about $30.00 bucks!
Good Luck!

Aussie_Dave--I don't know who hipped you to our fun fest here but they did you a solid--you owe them. Now for the particulars of your situation, I gather your "activities" are going to be nocturnal. A good choice to keep your lives separate would be to "Search" Short-Time Motels (Eden, La Oficina, Asia etc) like the Brothers said. Not at all grubby (I believe Chicas won't balk at all being taken there). If you had time daytime I'd suggest MPs.
BTW how about some time or another how about a brief overview of Mongering in Australia? Options, venues, prices, selections available, Websites--that sort of thing. We give, we get here.
Also BTW I don't see a benefit this time (corporate atmosphere and all that) but if you come back on your own--consider paid membership here. Guaranteed to enhance your experience if only from the serious discounts available, the Monger Map, entree to members-only Forums and may I say, the feeling of belonging.
Oh Yeah about Jaco--not a lot of choices but get a cheap room and pick'm up at the Beatle Bar. Here's a choice hotel:

Thanks for the solid advice guys, much appreciated indeed. Getting a room downtown sounds very much the go to me. A CRT membership does sound like a good investment, this will be my third trip, and there will be several more opportunities over the next few years, so I think I might just weight in and take up that suggestion. I reckon I can also spend a few hours in the BA lounge over the next week or two writing up a few hints and tips for successful field expeditions along the Queensland coast (although I have to say Aussie chicks come a distant third behind Latin and Asian women when it comes to giving mongers the sort of reception we need. Backpackers in Cairns and the Whitsundays are far more likely to leave their inhibitions at the bar door, than the locals are ... but sure, I can come up with some venues, prices, websites and so on ... I can also do the same for a few destinations on Asia.
Cheers

Dave
