The idea is to LEAVE the key at the desk. It's a square deal operation; they already got a key to the room, so there's no need to worry. Just leave the key at the front desk as you go....pick it up when you return. Good system. 8)

Get ready. They're taking room#1, the pool room, and the adjacent upstairs dining area all out and going to put in three suites with jacuzzis, etc. Got to keep up with the big boys.

It may be worth a trip to San Jose just to see the completed project.

Hello all. Gary from Texas here, just joined this web site after three trips to CR last year, and I am flying out of Houston tuesday morning, March 23rd for one whole week of sport f***ing. I stayed at the Castillio all of my trips there and have always been pleased. I've stayed in all the rooms in the old mansion portion. I do like the two rooms on top, but they do get a little warm in daytime hours. This trip will be in room 9, a little pricier but a great room to entertain in, its the largest. Also the room with the balcony is great (cant remember the number) will be in that one the final three nights. This time I would like to actually see some other parts of CR. Any ideas?......

It's funny reading this as this was the first post I ever made. On this, the 6th trip coming up in Oct. finally staying in the "modern" wing in back, room 23 with the great view. I love Costa Rica, Tica's, Nica's, & Chicas

Room 11 has a female spirit, (ghost), I didn't see her but felt it enough that I asked Darren that week about the rooms being haunted, and related to him my deodorant was missing. Lol,..he had a surprised look on his face and said yes,..that is what people say, and sometimes the deodorant is returned.....

Oh never mind, I see from that other thread that you have met her and are looking to score :D :D :D

I asked Darren about the new suites that are being built and he said the remodel work is on hold and he is not sure when it will resume but once it starts again it should not take long to finish.

That's actually something that worries me about the place. When you ask for a key, how does the staff know if you are the person who rented the room or some thief coming to rob the place since the person that checks you in isn't always there when you come and go? I once asked for my key and the clerk just gave it to me without asking my name or anything. :? :? :? I understand that over time they probably know many of you by name, but a first-timer isn't known by everybody.
