And that is open late at night.

Thiing is, after the SL closes, I often night owl it a lot. I love going to the DR to just watch the action till 3 or 4 in the AM sometimes. And if I find a real winner, I'll take her back to the SL, but that doesn't always happen.

But it's no ceegars in the DR. So are there any late night places around gringo gulch, that serve great coffee/expresso and have an outside seating area, or allow cigar smoking inside? Just looking for another great nite owl place to hang when I don't feel like closing out my day at midnight.

Manolo's on avenida central just east of calle 2 is open 24 hours and has an outside seating area. Not sure if you would consider their coffee great but it is CR coffee so how bad can it be?

Yeah, I've been there before but interestingly you can't smoke & drink(alcohol). If you sit inside you can't smoke but they'll let ya drink. If you sit in the outside area, along Avenida Central, you can have a smoke but they won't serve alcohol out there. But coffee & cigars outside, should be no problem.

So Manolo's doesn't serve alcohol outside but do they bust your chops if you were to take a discreet nip from a hip flask? Genuine question.

If they knew it wouldn't have been discrete.

Just busting a little, bro jazz. I do not know how tolerant they are.

I love coffee and cigars together, so no alcohol outside is not a problem. Sounds like I will enjoy hanging out there.

And the smell will not bother me, if there is one. I am one helluva flexible American, I don't get bent out of shape over conditions in countries less fortunate than ours.

Well, but 1-2AM in the morning, I am coming down hard from the day I've had - I start at 8AM sharp, and party hard and long all day, so some great coffee and a premium cigar hits the spot. Then at 8AM the next morning, the day starts with bloody marys, the proceeds to beer and shots of jager, and then by early evening I am shots of scotch and tequila. And I'm going from one cigar to the next all along.

When I grow up (if I grow up), I wanna be and have the stamina of Brother K-Paxian. Maybe he really is a Brother from Another Planet. Also Brother DiegoC has got it exactly, hence my question about the discreet nip of something good, if only some Cognac tipped into the coffee--my personal fave.

I have a flask so I may bring it with some Irish whiskey and have myself some Irish coffee while I sit, smoke, and revel in the exploits of the day.

Jazzbo, I am physical fitness nut, I am in peak condition for my age, I think my (female) doctor lusts for me. So I can go for days and days like I described. But after about I week, I need to retreat to my Fortress of Solitude to recharge.

Oh jesus no laddie. This is the way to make Irish Coffee

Ingredients

1 cupful of strong, hot, black coffee
1 tsp sugar
1 measure whisky
1 small carton double cream
Method

1. Take a wine glass and pour enough of the coffee to fill it just over half way.
2. Add the sugar and stir until it dissolves.
3. Add the whisky and stir.
4. Slowly pour a thick layer of double cream, over the back of a teaspoon, on to the top of the coffee so that it floats on top.

Now that is pure heaven on earth.
