Why not just tip a a 1000 colon note? It is almost the same amount a she does not have the hassle of exchanging the dollar bills for colones.

the $2 is a little bit more than 1000 Colon....

That is why I wrote "It is almost the same amount". At today's exchange rate a 1000 colon note is $1.84 I would say that qualifies as almost the same amount. My point was it is not worth the hassle of having to exchange a few dollars into colones for a gain of 16 cents a day.

Candy is dandy but...a bunch of flowers (available near Centro Mercado) for their work room is nice and doesn't add poundage (in addition to the cash tip of course). At least at the Dunn Inn it's not a problem for anyone to exchange dollars for colones at the front desk on their way out. Just sayin...And not to tip them or anything but respect for the Maintenance Staff doesn't cost anything either. And send in a round to the kitchen staff while you are at it. (trabajo to the bone, I am).

I had read somewhere on here that $2 bills were prized in CR because of their uniqueness. Before my last trip down I traded for $50 in $2 bills at my bank and used these for tips. I always got conversation and fascinated looks when I gave those as tips.

Yes, they are great gifts for the chicas and wait staff. I've been asked once already, so I'm going to find out if my bank can get me ten or fifteen to take down there.

Not knowing any different, I brought down in Aug. 09 about twenty $ 2 bills only cause I thought they were cool and maybe something the chicas and wait staff would like. VERY WELL RECEIVED. So now I bring them every trip and always makes them smile.
I go to the drive-up window at my Chase Bank branch and it's no problem to get twenty of the $ 2 bills.

It's the little things like this that distinguish us from the amateur once-in-a-lifetime guys.

If you had a relatively calm night and the room is in order, you could tip $2. However, if you have a Mikey Styles type night with leche, anal drippings, breast milk, and other bodily fluids on the sheets, you probably want to tip $5 to $10.
