I drove the new highway to Jaco and back on Friday. Traveling the speed limit or just a little over, It took 70 minutes from Multiplaza mall in Escazu with zero traffic . NOT 45 minutes as promised There was one stretch where I set my cruise control for just a minute, (first time I've used cruise control in Costa Rica) but just for a minute. This highway starts at the McDonalds in Sabana . There are about 5 tolls between San Jose and Jaco. They range from 320 colon to 640 colon, about 2500 colon each way.

The good thing I guess isn't just the time savings but the safety factor. The new highway is nice, similar to a toll road in Florida.

Added: How to get there. Take the highway(autopista) that goes to Escazu and then Santa Ana, not the one that goes to the Airport. To get to Jaco you will see a sign to exit the autopista and take a local road into Jaco, about 15 minutes on the local road.

But who'd want to go to Jaco anyway ? A dirty beach where you can catch hepatitis from the fecal infested water and get your car broken into. $208 round trip to the nice beaches of Florida. Sorry TW.

I think the copa is grossly overpriced for the size and age of the rooms. It is in walking distance of the BB but dangerous at night without a group. The food and bar is good at the copa as well as the pool is nice for passing the day without much to do.

The new road is like Icantstayaway described it. You have to pay at 4 tolls before you get to Jaco and altogether it costs 1930 Colones. It saves some time, but not as much as they promised.

When Oscar Arias drove from Rohrmoser to Puntarenas he said it took him 50 minutes. That is completely impossible, even without stopping at the tolls.

Del Rey - Beatle Bar no right or wrong choses, Two different bars, two different towns . It is nice to have a change once and a while. I think there are more hot chicas in the Beatle Bar. 8)

Hotter maybe, but not warmer. I find the BB girls better looking but poorer performers.
