My opinion is hands down TACA. The direct non-stop one that leaves around 2:00 a.m. I have NEVER had a problem checking in at LAX. I get there 3 hours before flight, check in and have some Starbucks and Beers before the flight. The sevice is great. You can sleep through the flight and wake up when landing around 9:00 a.m. and have the whole day still for yourself. TACA has has a nice new moderb fleet of Airbus 320's and 321's and again, the service is MUCH better that what you'll get fro the FAT 45 year olds on AA, Continental etc. It might cost an extra $100 or $150 but sure is worth it to me. Good Luck.

I agree, TACA IMHO is the hands down winner. I have been flying JFK to SJO every month for the last 3 years and have flown TACA, Spirit, AA, Delta and Continntal (COPA). TACA has the newest fleet, has always been on time, no charge for 2 pieces of checked luggage, free drinks and hot meals. Most flights for me have been non-stop, but maybe 6 times I had to change in El Salvador. No problems, short wait time for change (45 minutes) and luggage was ALWAYS forwarded correctly and arrived with me. Round trip cost from NY have ranged from $185 to $400 depending on date and advance booking.

To me, i dont really care much about service. As long as they get me to my destination on time and dont lose my luggage in the process, im happy. i sleep through most of my flights anywayz.
besides i rather spend that extra $100 i saved on something better/more meaningful. just my humble opinion.

[quote="I use http://www.kayak.com or sidestep.com and if the prices are too high and I'm within two weeks of departure, I put my itinerary up for bid at http://www.compete4yourseat.com It actually came in $16.00 under the cheapest web airfare in December.[/quote]

You didn't say when your trip was, but if you're close to departure, try the compete4 website. Travel agents bid, and I usually get a lower quote. Usually they're good for that day.

Also, if you have some flexibility in travel dates, try expanding the kayak.com search to 3 days each side of your target date. Spirit dropped to $342.00 from $376.00 by going on a day before.
