I am planning a mid week stop on one of the coast, does anyone have any info on carnival in CR? Time and best place if there is one.

Carnivals of Limon and Puntarenas. Octuber and February respectively.

Now the ones in San Jose are on Dec 18 "Fetival de la luz" that one is a parade which starts the end of year festivities.

Dec 26 is the horse parade.
Dec 27 is the normal parade.

Zapote starts on Dec 25th, and is a fair there all kind of roller costers and things like that. Bullfights take place in the Zapote Arena every night during the festive season. there are plenty small bars builted around the bull ring and the prices are very cheap.

The another mayor festivities with parades included horse/normal are on PALMARES 1 30 hr drive from town, this a mayor continuation of the festivites of Zapote.
