Personally I have not stayed at the Hotel Del Rey for over 10 years, but for those interested, a 20% discount is offered in their ad at http://www.amcostarica.com. FYI, the ad states
Quote:
up to 20% discount on all standard and economy rooms based on availabilty

How would you even know what discount you are getting since they don't list room rates anywhere. :?

Don't they ask for your credit card to reserve a room without telling you what the rate is? IDIOTS!!!!

Yeah I wouldnt give them my cc without some type of contract. Even an email confirmation like SL does should be adequate.

right now, I bet you could walk into just about any CR hotel without reservations...anyway, brother ydogi just stayed there...PM him and ask what he paid...80-100 dollars sound right?

some members say the regular rooms are more like motel 6/prison cells unless you upgrade to the more expensive suites.

guess they still charge the 10 elevator chica fee.

but it is ground zero.

I've never gotten the 20% discount. Standard rooms are running $103. Standard rooms and Economy rooms are interchangeable according to them. SL & LA nicer hands down. But I sleep better at night knowing there's non-stop party below me. And I like the around the clock room service. Sometimes I crave gallo pinto at 3am.
Trumpet guy, the cig smoke, the exhaust fumes, beggars, hardcore colombianas: all just part of the show.

brothers ... if you're interested, i asked them and below is the email response i just received. yes its ground zero, but i think LA or SL are my choices still:

Deluxe with 1 king size bed & Balcony (Mini Suite) at $130.00 + tax **1
person***..( 1 room left " discount doesn't apply on this room type )*

Deluxe with 1 King Size Bed at $120.00 + tax **1 person**

Standard with 1 King or Queen Size Bed at $90.00 + tax **1 person**

*The discount is according with the availability . So for those nights
we apply the 10%

So in other words, you only get the discount if they're not booked, and you won't know if they're not booked until you get there.

And i've never heard of the HDR not being booked, so it's doubtful you'll ever get the discount.

"Economy Rooms" are $80. Ask for it. I payed that on Thanksgiving week. An American that lives there says they will rent it for $60 if you offer that.

I doubt the Del Rey is ever fully booked.
