As I was walking down central yesterday morning I ran into Harley, who used to run the Newscafe restaurant at the Presidente when it was very good. He is now running the El Patio restaurant at the Balmoral. He gave me a tour of the place and told me of the changes that he has planned for the Hotel and restaurant. He asked me not to publicize what he is doing until some details are put together, however I can assure you it will be a very extensive project. If it comes to pass, I believe the Balmoral will become very popular.

I can share one aspect in that the management may very well CHANGE ITS POSITION on chicas in the rooms in the near future.

IMHO, if the Balmoral Hotel changed its position on chicas that would certainly be a good trend for us as mongers. Maybe its a sign of how desperate they are for business? Of course, it remains to be seen/reported exactly what that change will mean. Will it just mean dropping their guest fee from $20-25 or whatever it is now to $10-15? Well, that would certainly be an improvement but still not enough to persuade me to stay there. Or are we talking about some change even more significant than that.

As for the Balmoral's El Patio Restaurant, I can't imagine what sort of extensive changes they might have in mind. From a purely physical standpoint, it is already an extremely nice place. In terms of setting and ambiance, I don't think they could do much better. And I don't think there is anything they can change with their menu selection that would make it much better either. Really my only real gripe with the place and the reason I haven't eaten there more often is that I find it a bit pricey compared to other options in the area. OTOH, I'm sure there are many guys who don't mind paying all that much extra for the greater style and ambiance than say a Chelles, Mariscar or Plaza Venida.

They could add a seafood and fish soup with creme to the menu. It was under constrution for awhile and is nice now. So, nice I went there, But no soup with creme.

Is this the place pretty much directly across the street from the Pres? If so, and if they change their policies...I hope they give the Pres a run for their money!
