Oh yeah... I got "game" when it comes to fishing !!! LOL :P :P :P

During that time, the Sailfish and Marlin usually show up in good numbers in the Southern part of the country, down by the Osa Peninsula (Zancudo, Drake Bay, Golfito and into Panama. Plenty of Dorado (Mahi) and Yellowfin tuna will be in the mix also. The larger concentration of fish will start moving up towards the Central part of the country (Jaco, Quepos, Herradura) by spring.

Winds up to the North (Tamarindo, Flamingo, Papagayo) are still pretty stiff that time of year, so your best bet will be to get a boat down South. Or if you're in SJO, you can run over to Jaco or Quepos and talk to a crew over there. You might find the big fish straight out West of the beach, or they might run the boat down to the South, depending on where the fish are chewing. Most of the good crews monitor the bite on a daily basis, so they'll know where the bite is.

Worst case, if everything else fails and the weather kicks up - you can always find a crew to fish inshore and slow-troll live baits for Cubera / Dog-Tooth Snapper, Roosterfish, Jacks, Tuna, Bonito, Needlefish, etc. And if that doesn't work, just drop some dead bait to the bottom and fill the cooler with several different species of Snapper, along with nice Pargo and Grouper.

The weather in late February is nice, but sometimes the winds play havoc with the seas and the tidal currents. Either way, I'd still rather be on the water in CR than in my office !

Good luck.
MG

Thanks for the advise Mucho Gusto look forward to fishing. I usually fish out of Montauk, NY the action is great but want a change. I heard they have great pink snapper action in CR, they come in all sizes and shapes however, I also heard you always have to be careful because some snappers come with crabs

I thought Brother MG's advice so valuable, I extracted it to a separate Thread in "Non-gulch...Activities.

No problems there. Crabs are great bait for Tarpon in the South, and Blackfish (Tautog) up North ! :o  We've also caught some pretty big Striped Bass (off Montauk and around Long Island Sound) using crabs! Ya see..... the glass is half FULL !!!!!!

I was getting ready to get really upset because I just booked Orlando to SJO for 325. But then I read that it didnt include travel on a Fri, Sat, or Sun. Also the weekend I booked for was "blacked out", in addition to quite a few more days. So it looks like they're just trying to drum up business on the slow days.
