Yes, I'm having the same problem viewing the web site. But as far as information on CR we are more up to date than WSG.

WSG has been having problems for over 3 weeks. I am still getting error messages of "busy server"'. The board hasn't functioned correctly from the date of the upgrade.

You will find more information on this board for CR than WSG. I know when i respond to posters on WSG I always direct them here for more research.

Some observations on WSG and a couple of questions.

Comparing CRT to WSG is like comparing apples with oranges. They're both whoriticultural forums but thats where the similarities end. CRT definitely is the best most comprehensive source of information on CR, but covers little else. WSG does a decent job of covering "mongering" destinations all over the world. CRT (despite erroneous and unfair past allegations from disgruntled assholes on the old CRS board) is a largely unregulated board with a dynamic free exchange of views. This, in no small part, is because we police ourselves and take pride in acting as gentlemen. I'm not saying WSG members are not gentlemen, but Jackson uses a system that screens every single post for spelling, CAPS, grammar and content. This delays the time between when a post is submitted and when it appears on the site. This in turn delays the pace of information exchange and changes the whole character of the board. CRT is the only international whoticultural forum that I know of for any country where there is this degree of community where members actually get together "off-line" back in the US. That says to me more about CRT than anything else.

With all that said, I still would not write off WSG or other sites as additional places to look for information on CR. Of course come here first, but don't put all your eggs in one basket. Case in point, recently, when I was actually able to get on (the recent software upgrade there has been truly a cluster Phuck), I saw a post in the CR section that referenced another motel similar to Motel Eden. I'm sure there would be similar places in SJ, but don't recall ever seeing any reference to it here. Does anybody here know anything about that?

Second question, another feature that WSG has (as did the old CRS board) is an archive section for old posts. These sections are uneditable and can not take new posts, but can be searched and referred to by those doing seeking more detailed albeit perhaps somewhat dated info. I believe the CRS archive was originally created as much as backup of old posts when their software was changed as for the purposes I stated above, but thats not such a bad reason either. I'm not sure, but I think some of our posts may have gotten lost when the admins changed servers. It would be a shame to lose anymore of our history here. Yet another possible benefit might be to streamline the forum. Now that we are up to nearly 25K seperate post, we may be starting to get a bit unwieldy. Does anyone else think it is time for the Admin's to consider adding this feature to the site?

BTW, no disrespect is meant by any of this to the Admins and the GREAT job they have already done here. I'd be curious to hear their thoughts on this subject.

All good sound advice and as always we are open to suggestions. At this point, we have lost almost nothing except a small amount of 1/2 days posts going way back to Aug of 03. We have auto pruning of roll calls as once they pass no need to have them archived. Everything else is still there and available for search or just go back to the beginning.

I do not post on WSG nor do I care what some disgruntled old CRS people say. All I want for the membership in its entirety is to really have people come here and say hands down this is by far the best source of information anywhere on Costa Rica.

The ability to freely exchange views with out censorship (NON OFFENDING OR FLAMING POSTS discounted or disussion of illegal activity of course) is my opinion what we all want.

We here concentrate on CR... We have a small sections for Q&A on other places and even in its limited size is quite a good database as well.

Again open to suggestions always from anyone!

Hands down this is by far the best source of information anywhere on Costa Rica!

And for the record, I don't really care what an old "various" CRS member had to say either. I just threw that in to make light of the ridiculousness of that charge.

As for the loss of data, perhaps there is just something about the software I don't understand. At this time, the profile next to each of my posts indicate I have made 803 posts. When I click find all my posts from my profile page or do a search for all posts by Prolijo, I get only 524 results. Admittedly, this is not that huge a loss seeing as who posted them  (803 posts and still no post of the month, I'm ready to give up). But evidentally it applies to all our posts too. When I go to the last page in the general section, I see only polls and announcements that go back to the beginning of the board. The earliest regular post only goes back to April 2004. Its similar in the other sections. Trip Reports, Girls Review and Non-Gulch go back only to January 2004. Hotels goes back only to late July. The Non-CR section goes to March, but that was started later. The Restaurants, Health & Security and MP sections seem to go back to the beginning but I get the feeling from some recent failed searches that there may be something missing there too. Perhaps the software autmatically deletes older files once a certain capacity is reached in much the same way messages are deleted from our PM mailboxes.

As for my other question, I finally got on to WSG. Here is the post I referred to. Anyone here know anything about this?

There are two hotels like these here. They are nice and have Jacuzzis. There are different prices depending on the rooms but they are around c9,000 for 12 hours. The other place is Paradico (not sure on spelling but Paradise in english) both are about the same.

They are just hotels and have no girls working there. Be careful as taxis try to rip you off when going or comming from there. It is set up to drive in to a garage and close the door. Then just enter the room, there is no desk to check in at. It is use for many different reasons, people cheating, when you can not check two girls to a room or other reasons that are not wise to practice here in CR.

I actually had forum pruning on to keep down the massive size of the database... I had done that some time back when we were having server issues. Now that we have our own, no need to do that and from here on in, all posts will be there!
