Whenever I stay in an upmarket hotel (on business) I collect the little toiletries that maid replentishes every day. Especially the little bottles of skin cream. They are easy to carry and the girls appreciate the little purse-sized loations. Best of all, the price fits my budget...FREE!

try carrying a few pocket rockets around , the lil pink ones and start giving them a massage with one and then watch their reaction when they realize what it is !!!!

even if they don't like it at that point it cracks me up !!!

C.O.Jones ~ Your comment about perceived status brand is very astute. From my experience, Ticos are very label conscious and you observation of perceived status is right on.

Most of the girls that you will meet are not going feel "diminished" about you giving them a small gift. After all , they don't get squat from their real boyfriends unless its stolen or Romeo thinks he's about to get kicked out of his free place to stay. Just don't waste alot of money trying to impress them with anything more than a cheap gift because .....
There was no real romance on their part and after you go your seperate ways you will not likely be on their minds much until the next time they see you anyway.

I agree.

Not that I'm a cheapo but I think dollar store items are great. Toothbrushes, deodorant (secret, suave brand), bar soap (oil of olay, dove), are all stuff the girls are happy to receive. I had a steady supply of these in my restroom. When they would go in the would call out and ask if they could have one or two items. I saw some of these items in pharmacies but doubt they cost 570 Colones. $20 worth of this stuff can go a long way.

Snickers, Butterfingers, Baby Ruths, Nestles Crunch, Thres Musketeros, Blo Pops, Tampons, Victoria Secrets cremes and lotions, Bath and Body, throw in a Tonka toy or Barbie por las bebes!

For the special ones lingerie from any store for any price. Victorias Secrets is kind of pricey to give P4P girls you are only spending 5 or 10 minutes with (for some of yous guys that last that long anyways!)

Thats about it for fitty!

5 0

Last time I was in SJ and MDE I went on Ebay and bought ipod nano spinofffs right out of China. It took about 10 days to get them. For around $23 you can get a 8gb nano knockoff with all the bells and whistles. I never laughed so hard, you would have thought I gave them a car. They really are good gifts and I use one myself. One other gift is buying used quad band unlocked cell phones. Sometimes you can get them really cheap off of ebay also..

Dollar store has nice bath gels and 2 for $1 soft scrubbers, white and pink (along with 15/$1 hair protectors, also candles). At some point, I am not a department store. One thing you can also do is burn a few CD's of your music.

Simpler, they may just want men to think they are as perfect as they want to appear to them, trying to hide what they consider to be the ugly truth about themselves. And I may be reading more into it than is there, but I do believe they consider the basis of the lies to be justified."

Victoria's Secret body crema and lip gloss is always a hit with the chicas. It's not too expensive when you buy it with the volume discounts they offer. I've seen the same merchandise for sale at a kiosk inside the plaza mall on Central Avenida......and it was over double the price I paid in the states.

For the hijas, Barbie Dolls.....and for the hijos, a 5 pack of Matchbox cars. Both of these are available at WALMART for about $6 each.
