Stayed at the SL for 4 nights this last trip (3 and then 1 later on).

Room Price was excellent, environment is great, new bar looks great and gives (of course) much more bar space.

Service at the bar/restaurant only is not up to par, but Bill already addressed that. Actually, during the super busy Thanksgiving time, the service was pretty good. Then, it fell off again.

Front desk, good as ever. Security - always said "Buenos Dias" or "Hola Senor" as I entered. Cleaning crew polite and expeditious as always - make sure you tip!

I still give it a thumbs up and recommend it. I will most likely stay there next time if there is room available.

Agree with all. I've been staying at SL for the past few years and the service has fallen off big time. Manfred, Susan and Carlos have the front desk operation down....the bar service was terrible. Staff needs to be motivated in the worst kind of way. I swear they were ignoring the customers intentionally. Will be back at SL soon and hope service improves. Rascal

Looks like Evil Shirley needs to crack the whip on the bar staff.

I agree and that is a reason I don't stay there. They just don't give a shit. And the food is not even that good. But I do stop in and chat with the chicas and have a few drinks and talk with some CRT bro's.

PURA VIDA!

You can start and have a good Establishment. But if the people that work for you do not care enough to keep it good and maintain a high level of service them sooner or later it is gonna fall apart. Once it start doing that it is hell to stop it.. I hope this is not the beginning of something not good for Bill's business... :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Wow! This is not the SL bar I know... sure when it is busy it's busy but I never have a problem getting a drink or getting food. You know sometimes you can improve your service when you improve your own attitude. Smile, be courteous and tip...Those three things go a long way in getting service no matter where you are.

I suspect the expanded bar could create some issues since it is so big and the staff really isn't used to customers being able to come at them from so many angles but I didn't see that being an issue over Halloween.

As for the staff not caring........... Damn again that hasn't ever been my experience there.

You can say many things about the SL bar staff but "not caring" does not apply, at least not in my experience.

I'm sure even Evil Shirley tries her best.

Eureka! I've just solved it.

Since a, b, and c are constants, and x is the only variable, then x has to be a chica because the chicas are always variable. a, b, and c are always constants in a polynomial equation of the second degree..

My observation from 6 trips is that the service staff at SL always "cares". I like them almost as much as the chicas.

Cujo, one of the few math formulas that I remember from high school. So. a former bouncer at Tens also knew a little math to go along with his physical attributes.

All, Do a search on True Sportsmen (Bill's) recent posting on the subject. He acknowledges problems for several reasons and I'm confident he will address them. You will find no bigger supporter of SL than me. I've stayed there more times then I can count, was always very happy and have posted compliments to the staff on CRT.

Service is not good right now in the bar area but I'm confident with time things will improve. Rascal

I stayed here over Thanksgiving weekend and really enjoyed my stay. Room was very clean and the staff was all courteous. Bar service was kind of slow, staff there could be more proactive, but nothing I would complain to management about. Everyone I interacted with all had positive and pleasant attitudes. I did not try the food so I cannot comment on that. I would like to see a menu on the website in case I do decide to try the food next time.

I will most likely stay there my next trip(s) as long as my room is not directly off the bar/restaurant area. This is now my go to hotel in San Jose.

As long as x is not equal to cien, I am ok.

Although, x = -(c + 2)/b, where c = the amount of money a chica wants expressed in as a negative number bcs we lose the money, b = amount of game by said monger (the more game, the higher the number, the less the price, no game = 1 bcs you paid her price), 2 represents the 2k colones for taxi.

We like women bartenders but they are not the sharpest tack in the box when it comes to business. Give Bill some time, all will be corrected.

I agree Ken. The SL is a great place to stay and all the staff is always so friendly and provide very good service. I would highly recommend SL for the atmosphere and it's no different than any other busy establishment.

While the word “TIP” is often debated as to its exact meaning and etymology, the probably inaccurate acronym “to insure promptness” is nevertheless the defacto meaning of tip to us as Americans and Canadians. In common everyday usage a TIP means a gratuity, voluntarily given to a service worker, for good service. The amount of the gratuity varies based on the quality of service.

Good service = better tip; poor service = smaller tip.

It is safe to say that Americans and Canadians see tips as a monetary reward connected to service excellence; but Ticas DO NOT see it that way.

To them a TIP is expected from Gringos because Gringos give TIPS even though TIPS are already built into the price of a Costa Rican meal or drink service. In other words, if you tip you are double tipping. And that is okay if the service is extraordinary.

For TICAs the concept of quality service and better TIPS is not connected. They just think we are dumb, have too much money and love to show off by speading it around.

Perhaps that that is due to the fact that some Gringo’s, who are pole vaulting from bar to bar, tip too much for inferior service.
