I thought the service was bad. Just got back from my 1st trip to SJ 3 days ago. Went to the SL 3 times, never got a drink without asking for one. Sat at bar (the front one) at least 4 or 5 red shirt bar staff working. smoked 2 cigs, and still not asked if i waned a drink. flaged one down ordered a beer, paid for it got no change back.(thats another story).and had to ask for the next 3, long after an empty was sitting in front of me. Last Sat. about 10 pm same thing in trying to get that 1st beer, then I had to ask one of the 2 ticas sitting next to me to ask one of them for a menu. It's not hard to spot someone without a drink, or a empty drink. and do you want a menu should be automatic. I had a great time down there for my 1st trip. I will be back down soon and back to the SL. The SL Women can help one forget about slow or poor service.

I agree Don Carlos and that is what I meant. All bars in Costa Rica are at their worst when it is slow. I'll still come in any bar down here and pull those numbers up 15%. Cuz I don't give a shit about any of their excuses or reasons a bit. It's about cracking the whip! I know some will disagree and pull out the "it's a cultural thing". Bullshit, they wanna earn money like bartenders in the states, they gotta work for it.

It's been like this for awhile, & it's the main reason why I won't stay there. If they can't even get you a drink without being bugged for it, what kind of service are you going to get as a guest of the hotel? It seems every time I go there, it's a little worse.

the SL is the only place that I stay when in SJ..

WHY must you ask????

because of Bill and his staff..

Had you taken your complaint directly to Bill, the problem would have been solved!!!!

I can name a half dozen other places that will stick it to ya every chance they get...including the HDR....

And that's the truth...

Well.....I've been here for the past 5 days and what I can say is that service has been beyond excellent as far as I'm concerned. Matter of fact...I'd say it's even better than when I was here before prior to the changes. And as far as Veronica is concerned....Bill...if you're reading this: Give her a Raise!!! She's the GREATEST!!

I am not trying to bust your chops or start a fight my friend but I think you are wrong on this one.. Just came back from my last trip for the year.. .""God please make there be one more.. " :D :D I LOVE CR".. "" :D :D The bar staff at SL was nothing short of perfect with there service. I don't know if its the way how "MH" and my self treat them. but as soon as I enter the space where they can see me. the first thing is a friendly "HUG". A very polite "HELLO". and would you like some thing to eat or drink. every 10 min there was someone checking on me to see if my imperial is finish or do I need to have one of my favorite Cognac and a box of matches because I always light my Cognac before I take my first sip. I must say BILL has done a wonderful job. although he has a lot of new staff they were all friendly and polite and most of all DAM GOOD LOOKING. It won't be too long before I break my rule and Bang one of them.. I just cant stand been around good looking friendly women and dont help my self...

As most of you know, I am a big fan of the Sportsmens. However, I am the first to let Bill know when service is off. I believe the new team and procedures are getting there. I received really good service the last two times and witnessed the bartenders being much more proactive. The new bar is great and really adds to the functionality of the place.

Yes the last few days I have seen an improvement in the way that they are handling the bar. Seems that bartenders are assigned a certain area to work like front or back bar or a certain section and it seems to be work much better than when they are all just wandering from section to section.
