The reason *I* still stay here is as I mentioned in my post, the past 3 times, the service has been excellent. And then, Bill steps up and says he's on it.

IMHO The SL is *still*:

1. The best value in all of SJ
2. The friendliest staff in all of SJ
3. A unique environment that is exactly the vibe I'm looking for.

Upon reflection of the new staff, I think Bill might have been hiring more on looks this time around... there are some new cuties, definitely.

I agree 100% .....employees are just that...they work for you ....if they are learning their job ...they will get better....the key is having someone other than the employee looking out for problems.....first sign even in a place filled with working girls is someone looking for their servers ....not sure if Bill tracks ticket times (its easy just write what time each ticket comes into the kitchen and what time it hits the window ) 99% of us are from the us...we fill out forms everyday of our lives (most of us will say its the last thing we want to do on vaca) but if Bill puts a place on the check for comments or a area to write them...service will improve quickly;;;even in san jose !!! We try to hire Nice People ...and teach them the skill, ....easy thing for me to watch (and the sportmen has a few concerns) is see if the people behind the bar keep looking up .....I have seen here and many other places where the bartenders just wont look up to see who need help....

You are so right Chilimike. I tried to get a guy to give me a job down here doing nothing but sitting and observing the running of his bar. He doesn't think outside the box. I even offered that he didn't have to compensate me if there wasn't a significant gain. I do it anyway as a hobby, but there has to be a whip cracker around at all times. Even the best of employees in CR will slack when the bosses back is turned.

One small addition. Many people don't realize how small things add up. Let's say your staff is mediocre and on average, they miss one (conservative estimate) drink that half of the patrons of the day would have ordered if not frustrated by service. If you are missing even
50 drinks a day, you are talking how much when multiplied by 7, 30 or 365.

the loss of a stabilizing influence like asta doesn't help. not everyday an employee like her comes along.
i will say laora? laura or however you pronounce her name is the hardest working of all the girls there imo. she just doesn't possess the personality to garner a lot of attention. maybe she deserves a shot at head bartender or something. just a thought.

Well I agree at times service can be a bit slow but it's not always the girls fault and there are some who do hustle.

I was there the night before Halloween, finishing touches were being put on the new bar and there were 2 guys playing in the back. Place was busy, service was slow but it was due too few waitresses. The ones who were working were busting their asses till closing!

During my last visit and this one I have had great service from Melissa and Lauren. Hope I got their names right :)

There are a number of new waitresses here now and as I write this all have been asking all afternoon if you need anything.

Bill

Hello Gentlemen,

We know and Mysnoatb is right, our service level has suffered since our bar expansion. We have hired 4 brand new girls in the last 35 days and they are still learning. We just were not ready for the increase in business and covering the larger area that we have had, our mistake no doubt. The comment about it being bad at times even though its not full of custmers may have something to do with new people or being understaffed as well.

I know that if we dont get better we will lose customers maybe for ever!
I wont let that happen, believe me. Please keep posting about the service levels in the next few months this helps us.

Thanks,

Bill

This is why the Sportsmen’s Lodge is a first class establishment. The owner is very much in tune with his customers and does all he can to accommodate his guests.
Happy Holidays Bill!

Service was good considering the sheer number of Holiday diners. The new bar will eventually help the service levels. Yesterday the place was crowded but the congestion in the back was minimal, wiht the new bar and surrounding tables full.

One of Bill´s best attributes is that he listens to complaints and continually tries to improve his facilities and service.

The word certainly got out to the chicas, there were plenty of hotties around including some brand new ones. Vegas Bob scooped up a new hot blonde for desert.

When does room service end for the day?
I asked for some towels around 10pm or so and the bartender girl said she couldn't help me. Next time I need to remember to ask before the maids leave.

Just go to the front desk and ask one of the girls there. they will take care of you.
