I went to Continental.com and checked non stop fares Iah to SJO for mid Dec. and came up with $438 as lowest. Wed to Wed. flights are usually the lowest.
I then went to Cheapfares and got a $222. quote for the same days and flights.
Both are exclusive of taxes and fees.
Am I missing something here?

I am tempted to jump on the $222. fare but is it too good to be true?
Is there anything that could explain the difference?

isn't that much lower fare for one-way only? Check.

I would first check and see how much it would be after the taxes. I ran into a similar price for continental...$278.00; and taxes and fees were $306.00 bringing the total to $586.00. Don't let that low price fool you, they will get you one way or another.

I just got caught up in all the layoffs and flight cancellations at USAIRWAYS. They cancelled my flight reservation in January, but gave me a full refund. I got a comparable priced flight on TACA. A lot of hassle. Oh well......I guess that's just the way things are these days. :?

I had to buy some tickets on short time frame in Sept. ( buy today - fly next day ), US Air wanted $1800 Plus , Orbitz had the same flight for $330. Bought the Orbitz tickets and they worked. MY thought was maybe Orbitz paid them some sort of Fee to be allowed to sell the last seats at this late a date, and if Airline sold the seat, they had to pay Airline a penalty. So high price covered the flight and the kick back to Orbitz- maybe there is some sort of sliding scale kick back with how many days to flight

Some times cheaper to buy round trip and throw away the return seat. Go figure,

CO had a few weeks ago seats done to $288 total for early Dec and mid Jan , but some odd ball times

Did you find out if there is a difference? I am flying IAH to SJO on Dec 10th. That does sound like a hell of a deal
