I didn't say who, I'm just saying some are saying black and some are saying white. Can't be both.

Steven, So I guess you are saying the horn doesn't bother you?
Just kidding. I'll go with your well articulated answer and keep my reservation at LA. I'm a light sleeper and I will add my honest opinion to the board when I return from my trip, (unless I am bribed very substantially to lie).

Just the facts Ma'am......

Yes there is a train
Yes it rumbles the ground to an extent, HELLO the tracks are directly across the street
Yes the train has a horn
Yes the horn is LOUD
Yes I heard the train AND the horn last weekend

The earliest I heard the horn was 7am, but someone else mentioned they heard it at 6am, so maybe I slept through the 6am blast??

You hear the train/ horn all day long, but it lasts for 10 seconds

My guess as to why mh said it was a YMMV thing was to it's ANNOYANCE FACTOR...which IMO was NONE

It never woke me out of a sleep...I am a medium to heavy sleeper (whatever that means)

Never once did a chica say...."O mis dios...is that a train horn?" I simply replied, " No, but I like your optimism!" :D  :D

Sorry I forgot to address your question:

The tracks had been used sporadically for freight purposes and sometimes workers would snag a ride on the flat beds, but it was most irregular. NOW, it's a full on commuter service for people to get from one place to another. It runs in the early AM until, perhaps, 9am; quits running; starts up again, perhaps between 3 or 4 (??) for the return trip back. Make more better sense now? 8)

My times were off: http://insidecostarica.com/dailynews/20 ... 4/cr01.htm

"The train will provide service from Monday to Friday between 6am and 8am and 4:30pm to 7:30pm from the estación al Atlántico in San José, diagonal to the Parque Nacional and Heredia, a distance of 10 kilometres."

Thanks. That's what I thought. I can deal with the PM horns but I'm a light to medium sleeper and I like to sleep to 10:30A or more so it will phuck me up in the early morning but only if I stay there.

Maybe it did Tstef527. The 6AM horn could have been enough to awaken you a least to a partial sleep then you would hear the 7AM horn fully.

Some things I'm not too picky about but a loud horn (EARLY) right next my phucking hotel would really piss me off. IN the distance is not as loud but right next is a serioud issue when I pay even rack rate $50-$60/nt. down there!

I'm so glad I read this post and have some more info. If it means I stay in a more traditional hotel and pay a take in fee or only MPs then so beit. A good night's rest is so important to me esp. when on the road traveling. Even in a good quiet hotel can be a real challenge getting a good night's rest that first night and the night right before the next day's departure. So on a 3 night trip I only get 1 good night's sleep (less if loud horn).
