Gentlemen-

This isn't a downer but more of a heads up. A very good friend of mine helps run the emergency room for a big hospital. He said about 50 people are coming in daily with H1N1.

Another friend of mine got H1N1 and so did their K*ds. One of their K*ds was in pain walking and needed to go to the emergency room for fluids.

2 friends of mine just got it today.

I am vaccinated (knock on wood) but I'm still worried about it. Why? Cuz I'm going to CR next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I better not get it cuz I'm really looking forward to my last trip for a little while. Seriously guys, go out and get vaccinated.

Pics look good, keep them comin!!!

Football and women...I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!

BB

I was in the hospital Friday because a guy that works for me fell off a ladder, and a huge dude(about 6'5/350 pounds) about 20-ish comes in with his mom supporting him...he sat in the waiting room puking for a good 10 minutes about 20 feet from me before they took him back.I was thinking "oh hell...the flu..."

don't have anything yet.... we shall see I guess.

My wife actually had it about 3 weeks ago. I sleep in another room while we still live together so I was lucky and did not get it. I did get the regular flu shot 2 weeks ago but cannot get the H1N1 until more doses are distributed.

Got call about 3 hours ago, friend just died from it ( 61 years old- non smoker, non drinker, worked on his feet all day ) flu set in Sunday, Monday he took a noise dive, hospital yesterday afternoon, by then he had lots of complications associated with Flu and was gone before 6 am today

Friend but not close friend, step dad to my buddy but they were not close

He believed “ them” on radio in that the shot was part of a gov. plot and far worse then the flu. So he passed on his chance to get a free shot.

Actually the H1N1 flu is , so far, more mild than the normal seasonal flu. Remember that seasonal flu kills 36,000 americans per year on average.
It seems not to cause bad fevers and people rebound fairly quickly.

Are these confirmed cases (via tests) or just people showing up with flu symptoms?

These were actual cases of H1N1 in the emergency room. Whether the vaccine is safe for Ch*ldren, I don't know. From what I hear certain little guys can get it and other little ones can't. If they have allergies they can't get the mist and others should get the mist. These are all questions for the professionals. I'm just an amateur gynocologist.

I'm a die hard capatilist and don't like the gov't too much. But this isn't some gov't plan to make us beg for healthcare or some implemented sickness. The vaccine isn't some rushed medicine that's gonna hurt us more than harm us.

We aren't in the flu season yet and this pig flu is already making a mark early. Consider me a friend with a couple doc's chirping in his ear to get the vaccine whenever possible.

Also consider me a friend that says go out and get laid as much as possible.

BB

PS- Hope to see you guys in CR next week!!!!!!!!!!

Actually right now the disese sound like it's a real problem in the United States, and is not an issue in Costa Rica. The chances of getting it would seem higher if you were spending time with people coming from the United States.

This could change at any moment. My point is right now the United States seems like the place to avoid.

Just as the first wave of the bug hit CR later then the U.S. the CR health authorities are bracing for the second wave in early 2010. The expect the 2nd outbreak to more virulent then the first according to what I have read.

Costa Rica is not exempt from the H1N1. The United State may have gotten an early start, but it is coming on strong to other countries

Three more countries - Costa Rica, France, and South Korea - have confirmed detecting influenza A(H1N1) cases in their respective countries, bringing the total number of countries affected by the pandemic to 16.

FYI, this bug has been active in CR all year....from news accounts in La nacion, it has been slower to spread. There have been some deaths, but it seems to me the spread has been slower.

As to severity, I spoke to my sis (Executive Nursing Director or a Regional Hospital System) and only generalized info is available as to who is at the most risk: Ch*ldren and pregnant women.

As for the injections, I'm not afraid of the method, and the materials used in them. Jennie McCarthy is on the bandwagon of mercury as the bandit. I've seen this reaction before....Mercury was used in multidose packaging of vaccines to keep funguses and bacteria from growing. It was carried over into single doses. It is in the form of ethyl mercury, which is considered benign to the body. Methyl Mercury is not. It likes brain tissue.

It seems that there are mild to severe reactions to the virus. I had Type A influence (THE FLU) and it was terrible. I would rather have an F150 drive back and forth across my chest than to have it.

Yes there were deaths in Costa Rica back in July. As I recall it leveled out at about 30 +/-. This is the thread:

Not sure where you got that number. I seem to recall it being said that the number of countries was far more than that. I believe there are more then 16 countries reporting cases in Europe alone.

This is getting a little too close for comfort here in the USA. Three weeks ago, my employer gave us free flu vaccinations which I always take advantage off. Well this year they had to make appointments in alphabetical order because of the amounts of request for the flu shot. I took the shot and I have been sick for the last two weeks. I do not think that is related but this time is kicking my butt.

I went to see my doctor on Friday and he was wearing a surgical mask and through out the appointment we never shake hands as we normally do. Antibiotics, cough syrup with codeine, nasal spray, and an inhaler because I came down with bronchitis. One week to recover before hitting CR.

Josie-

I'm totally on that same boat, but I just got a little better. Here's what I recommend. Take B12 which is for your nervous system and I read the vitamin D helps prevent the flu. Since yer already sick, obviously drink lots of fluids.

I was my most sick last night and said to myself, "F it, I'm drinkin!" So I drank too much and woke up with an incredible hangover. Currently I feel the cold has subsided. I'm a fan of boozing the cold/flu away.

I'll be in CR on Thursday!!!!!!! Hoping I'm 100% by then....

Dont get the damn vaccine if you are a healthy person. It can make you sick. The best way to avoid flu and any other illness is to keep your immune system strong through diet and rest.
I have visited lots of developing countries and have never taken a vaccine of any type before going and never got sick. Those travellers who took multiple vaccines were sick the whole time.
The drug companies are manipulating us with vaccine propaganda.
People always bring up polio but that disease was 95 eliminated in the US before the vaccine was introduced due to improved water and sanitation here.
