Too....since so many CRT shall be in town for the Halloween party and there is most certainly a huge safety in numbers.....what about an unplanned action on Oct. 30?!

How about hiring a couple of goons to rough them up? Seriously, bribery always works in these types of situations. I wouldn't mind a 1 dollar/day gringo tax to keep these horn zealots quiet.

I read yesterday that the traffic situation that was forcing a lot of traffic to drive by La Amistad, had been corrected. This should have also quieted down the situation.

I was standing outside Amistad yesterday around 4 PM when the trained rolled by.

The first thing I heard was two blasts from the train's horn as it approached. I looked to my left and saw the train approaching the intersection. The conductor was one of the considerate ones who just does the short - short - long blasts, so it wasn't too bad, but it was LOUD.

As the train got closer, the tracks started to rumble and I could feel the vibrations in my feet. I wondered how was the noise level inside the hotel.

I guess it depends on your tolerance for noise. Maybe the last couple of trip reports were written by deaf mongers.

I was making my reservation recently with Rodolfo on the phone and the horn blew really loud, but it was in the afternoon., which is ok. He apologized, but I guess it is still an issue. I hate to see something like this impacting La Amistad's business, which is a fine hotel. I guess my girl and i will just have to get it up at 5 AM; my testosterone level is higher then, anyway.

I am here, now; in the room most close to the train (108); I spend a lot of time in my room and THE TRAIN IS SIMPLY NOT AN ISSUE AT THIS POINT AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED.

Just as I type this post a train has gone by and it was not nearly as loud or troublesome as the car alarms you hear everywhere.

Heck, even I wouldn't feel right egging the thing. Shucks.

Is this train noise problem a new one in that new train service has been established to say Heredia and that the problem was non-existent 6 months back??

Hey they could always hire someone to derail the trains a couple miles before the hotel but then be in some real serious kimshee.

Not sure what poster's purposes are dealing with this thread, but someone is not giving correct information. Loud noise is not YMMV. Hmmm Don't know the age of all, maybe some are starting to have that declining hearing. Point is, give an accurate description for folks, not have you would like it to be. And I think this is fair to say because seems to be direct contradictions....

Exactly, that motherfucker is loud if you're 21 or 71....

I mean, I'm all about backing up your place, but no words will ever make that horn quiet...

Me? I've been called (among other things!) "...a little old man...." and my exact age shall not be given. While all but "blind" due to astigmatism (-6.25), correctable, my hearing is superior to that of any 16 year od: I can tell you which flute is 1st seat, 2nd chair in any large symphony hall from the nether regions of the hall; and, too, I can provide you with similar data on what's what with the bass violin in the same setting. Hearing is important to me, I'm most sensitive to "noise" of any sort be it "white noise" from a shortwave receiver or the high pitched hum of a jacked up flyback transformer (FBT) or a rice burner 125cc or a loud ass train horn blaring away forever and ever.

I do not have a ANSI and IEC 651 Type II standard dB meter (I am SO sorry I didn't bring one), but again, I am presently in the closest most room to the train tracks at Amistad and have not been troubled in the least by this horn; it has not awakened me in the am, nor has it pissed me off while watching DvDs in the afternoon...which is a very easy thing to do (yes, I am an exciteable boy; send lawyers, guns, and money). Does the horn exist? Damn straight it is here; it is very real; and I rather suspect it is not going away. However, it's never been as loud as the turd last night who was shouting at "the halloween party" "THEY'RE ALL WHORES AND WE'RE ALL GOING TO GET FUCCKED!!!!!" in moments of druken lucidity.

Cell phones and their ring tones are more annoying than this train. If you want "silence", go into the bush...but then you're going to have to deal with the friggin creatures of the night noise, the least of which are frogs. Too, entering an insulated sound studio might be even more better....than some people would be bitching about the quiet. Jesus wept.
