Was hoping to stay at the Sportsman for my upcoming trip - Oct 17-21 but all they have is courtyard rooms and then finally getting me moved later in the trip to something nicer. I was considering staying at Hotel M, but I would like to be in the action as well.

What is the scene like there - is there a steady supply of Chicas at the M?

I like nice accommodations, but I am licking wounds from a recent break up with my novia of 4 months (more on that story will be posted in the Rules of Engagement section when I can gather my thoughts - I am a text book asshole) so I would like to be in the action as well.

All suggestions appreciated

HotelM, if you have money to waste. As far as other places, I will leave it up to the crew. I like La Amistad. First place I went to stay, and I just repeat. At some point, it is a room. SL, your room is located with slip away action. HDR, never been there for the rooms, but action around the clock. But, really nice accomodations, I will have to leave it to the pros.

And I may be reading more into it than is there, but I do believe they consider the basis of the lies to be justified."

No. The scene at M is NOT like the SL or HDR. Read my latest trip report in the VIP forum for more details.

What exactly are you looking for: the finest accommodations money can buy, or a place to carouse and lay your weary body to rest after carousing?

If it's the first, call Amistad and ask Matt or Rodrigo to hook you up with one of the penthouses (201 or 202). I doubt they're available at this late date, but you never know. They are closer to the action, very nice (luxurious even), and half the price of Hotel M.

If it's the second, call Hotel Dunn or pm brother BKTuna (he's the manager). Also Castillo, Morazan, heck even El Presidente (chica fee).

The Courtyard rooms at SL are smack in the middle of the action, but I've stayed in them (Paz) and it wasn't that bad. I used earplugs when I wanted to rest, which wasn't often.

Me and 2 of my Bros. are making our 1st trip to CR on Wednesday. We've got a place to stay Wed. and Thur. However we are up in the air about going to Jaco FRI-Sun. and havent booked rooms in SJ for those days.
Do you think we may be SOL if we wait to the last minute to book rooms?

Thanks for the help

You will be able to get a room on arrival somewhere, especially in the middle of the week. At this late date I would wait and check out the different choices in person.

We are at the Presidente in January and I was told by the person who got the rooms for us that there was a 10.00 chica fee, but when talking too the Presidente direct they told me no chica fee but only 1 girl at a time. By the way the Presidente told me no rooms were available but Ray with Costa Rica Travel Store was able to get 5 rooms booked for us. Del Rey is quite loud from what we were told and the rooms are dated. Wanted to go with SL but one of the guys in the group was afraid that if someone he knew checked out the hotel on the web he might be in a little hot water.

Not often mentioned in these discussions (but should be) is that proud CRT Sponsor The Hotel Freebird. Some may consider them downscale but what is it you're looking for in accomodations? Mostly non-smoking, if that's a factor.

Try this if available, www.Executive-Properties.us. A three bedroom luxury penthouse suite with private maid and breakfast for less than most 1 room suites. It is located just 1 block from Little Havana, 3 from New Fantasy, and just 5 blocks from SL or Amistad.
Brand new and beautiful, no chica charges.

How close to the action is the hotel freebird and has anyone stayed there before ?
How does it compare to the Dunn Inn or amistad

Check out the website. Nice rooms downstairs. About 3-4 blocks from DR and same from Idems and relax.

Here's a good Review of the Hotel Freebird (a CRT Sponsor) from Brother Logitech in Jun '09: www.costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=29429

I would echo what Logitech said about the Freebird. Stayed there about a month ago and will e there again this coming Saturday.

I walked to the DR nightly and never had a problem. SL is a short walk too.

Dennis is a great host.
