Pops service is excellent for newbies or seasoned mongers alike. I was fortunate to meet up with Pops before he started the service and had a blast on his tour.
We did not do the mongering side of things but he gave us valuable information on how to get around cheaply.

On top of that he is one of the coolest people to just hang out with and have a few beers.

I have not used the service but I met Pops last trip and he is a good dude. I was lucky enough my first trip down to meet a wingman and we both thought the same. The advantage for a newbie, you get the lay of the land (both figuratively and literally) your first time there. Maps are great but no street signs make it a bit more difficult to navigate. You can meet someone and go to MP's but everybody is different.

Ex: You want a certain girl at an MP, the other guy doesn't like anybody. Is he going to wait an hour for you? Remember, he is also on vacation.

Pops is paid to stay and hang so I see it as valuable, esp for those that are concerned about their safety. Also, I know some of these chicas can try to change prices on you or try the propina (tip, forgot it was the newbie section) angle. There is definately value.
