I stumbled on to this great site not knowing about the monger activities at CR. Purpose of this trip was to do some dental work which was quoted $11k in my hometown near Chicago. I will be down in CR for 3 nights from 11/24/09 thru 11/27/09.

I was tempted to pick Castillo’s $38 standard room but found out that room doesn’t have a window, and rate for deluxe seems to be in the range of all the others I have looked. I need some help here finding the room.

1st Choice: Standard at SL $59
2nd Choice: Queen at LA $69
3rd Choice: Queen at Dunn Inn $69
4th Choice: Deluxe at Castillo $64

I just don’t have any idea about the size of room on each property. I don’t need fancy place but decent enough to have a guest. SL’s deluxe ($89) at new wing is also available but wondering $30 upgrade really worth it or just save it to use on MP instead. This is result of spending wayyyyy too much time reading stuff on this site. I chose first two based on some in-house availbility. BKtuna (Dunn Inn) and Darren (Castillo) seems very nice to earn the business.

Thank you for your time and help in advance.

Korman – is there any other Asian beside Almond?

Rates are all before VIP discount. I'm aware of them, I just like some feedback on the room of each property. I did order VIP card last week but haven't got it yet, maybe my DH trashed it...hahaha

Anytime you can get into SL is a good thing for about a hundred reasons. If you can afford $20 I'd upgrade to the modern wing

Welcome to the board 8)

The only significant Asian population in CR is Chinese. The Ticos call all asians Chinos so do not take offense. There are a number of Asian CRT members but I do not remember specific handles.

There is one good Korean restaurant in Rohrmoser wiht two older Korean ladies cooking. They have excellent Dol Sot Bebimbop.
It is named Littel Seoul and is 100 meters nort of Plaza Mayor Mall

I am never going home

Hands down SL. Why go else where when you have every thing under your nose..

...and upgrade to the New Wing. You may want some peace and quiet after the dental work and the Standard Courtyard rooms are just too close to the action.

Don't know if the others offer the service, but twice over Labor day weekend people had medical emergencies at SL. In both cases, an Ambulance was called immediately and the guest was checked out by professionals within minutes. Charge for the outstanding service? $0!

Thank you very much for everyone’s input so far. I expected majority of members would recommend SL as it is popular place for CRT members to hang out, but I'm also worried that SL would be too intimidating and overwhelming place for me with bustling activities.

Will see…I may just post my decision on my trip report.

Na, that describes the Del Rey.

I would say the opposite . The SL has several areas including an atrium with 6 or so sofas and tables to chill with friends.

I stayed at the Dunn Inn which is very nice, make sure you get a tile or wood floor room as opposed to the carpet. Boyd is an excellent resource and will make sure any problems you might have are solved. Also the Dunn in price includes tax and the others on your list do not.
Also it all depends whether you want to stay in a brothel....Del Ray, SL and Amistad qualify as quasi brothels where as Dunn inn is more low key with a good happy hour, two bavaria lights for 1800...which is 1.50 a piece.

I don't think that Amistad has any resemblance whatsoever to a brothel. That's why I stay there.

I would agree. To me a brothel is different then both SL and LA, hell even the DR. Mp's are more congruent to a brothel from my experience in the past.

Yep. Hotel Little Havana is about as close to a brothel as you are going to get. Girls are not even allowed in the Mansion area of the SL unless escorted and unescorted girls are not allowed in La Amistad at all.

Also Dunn Inn and La Amistad are "mixed" hotels where you can meet/ talk with civilians should you wish to do so. And you can mention either one to non-pro Ticas without a lip-curl. No brothel. either one.
