Flyboy........ Yes Santarpios in east Boston is very good, but personally I lik Reginas better. The canoli and cappachino place on Hanover St is Caffe Vittoria which is next to Mikes Pastry shop, which makes the BEST canolis in the universe.

VB, the best canolis in the universe are found in Sicily, I think they originated there, but as to the best in the North End, probably Modern Bakery is better, and don't forget the Cafe Paradisio for the cafe and sambuca.

Chicago, the deep dish pizza is a food group unto itself.

Favorite trick is to go with a newbie and encourage them to get the 14" pizza . Sounds small till you realize its 3" thick. Can feed 3 people easily. :)

Anyone who eats real pizza would never waste their time ordering that misnamed thing they sell in Chicago. :P

I am from Chicago and will admit our pizzia is over rated.

The deep dish crap that everyone raves about is slop. Give me a thin crust with good sauce, cheese and sausage that is all you need.

Flyboy,

What was the name of the little wood fired place in San Antonio de Escazu that you took K and I too?I really like their pizza.

As to Costa Del Sol, since the Itlaian guy sold it to the Tico, the pizza sucks and they would not give us cheese to sprinkle on.

Boyd,

Geez sorry for such a late reply, just happened to see your request today. The name of the place is Cerro's in San Antonio de Escazu. Had a pizza there this week, price is higher, but just as good.

Missed this until now. Don't where you live but if you ever get to West Kendall try Marinos or Mike's both at 137 Ave and Kendall Drive. A little further west go to Steve's at 157 and Kendall. He also still has his original place on South Dixie at about 180 street.

Any of those places for real NY pizza. Miami is full of mom & pop pizza places with good stuff stay away from the chains like Dominoes, Pizza Hut, Papa John's etc. if you want a good pie.

Found a mention of Sole Mio on this blog. Check him out for other CR food venues:
http://ZT.typepad.com/

Wonder if we could recruit him as our reviewer? He sure looks like he could fit in with us. Anybody know him?

Yes I know Lenny. He use to review restaurants for AM Costa Rica. When I asked him why he stopped he said because the problems is that restaurants open and close so quickly. He would hear about a restaurant, have a meal there, write the review and then AM would publish it. When the reader went to try the restaurant it had closed.

VB...when I lived in Boston in the 1980's, the European in the North End was one of the most popular pizza places. I think they used to serve the huge square or rectangular pizzas. Is it still in business? Also, Regina's in the North End was excellent.

Addendum...well, I just did a Google search, and apparently the European closed about eight years ago.

Maybe good pizza, who knows, never tried it, but the place has tablecloths and seems to attract a snobby tico lunch crowd... I'll stick with Pizza Hut
