This isn't smack talk nor fun stuff, but I didn't know where to post this.

This morning, I went through one of the most difficult ordeals that I have ever faced. I took my 13 year old American Pitbull Terrier to get euthanized. She had been suffering from seizures off and on since late Saturday night, and was just deteriorating. She lost control of her bodily functions and her tongue was hanging out. I couldn't watch anymore, but the vet said that her brain was probably fried after the first few hours, so she didn't suffer much.

But she's in peace now. I didn't think it would be so difficult but it was pretty hard. I read Berk's post from a couple years ago and it helped me. Thanks. I'm definitely glad I was there with her, and even though she probably didn't see, hear, or recognize me anymore, I hope it gave her some comfort. She was the best dog, I miss her a lot.

Sorry buddy. If I didn't have such a screwed up schedule, I'd have a dog in a heartbeat. We did the same with our dog. Just watching him suffer everyday got the best of me. He couldn't control his bowels and when you came home, he had that "I'm sorry" look on his face. Just thinking about it has brought a tear to my eye. Get another one. It will be a whole new set of adventures. Too bad chicas aren't like dogs, we'd have it made as mongers.

Peace
Dean

Brother Orange--I join with the others in condolences. Just today I was reading your "Advice to Newbies" and so had reinforced what a good man you are. The animals we're guardians of have an amazing ability to get into our hearts and souls. There will be another but this stout friend's memory will stay with you...and that's a good thing.

I too am sorry for your loss. I got a dog about a year and a half ago after going several years without one. I went through similar painful experiences as posted.

With that said, I would like to share a couple of funny things my fur friend, a 1 1/2 y.o. Siberian Husky affectionately named MR. Nibbles :)

At six mo., keeping a decent pair of sox was about impossible. MR. Nibbs was sitting in the living room squirming around when I noticed one of my socks hanging out of his asshole. I escorted him outside to try and run it out of him. We are close, but close enough for me to pull it out :) After a few laps in the yard he pushed it out

That was not the end of it, a few days later I was mowing and went over that sock and shot it onto the neighbors fence

Not to be out done, a few months later, my GF was staying over. Mr. Nibbles found a tampon in the trash and brought it into the living room where a game of take away started, it was a horror scene for her and funny as hell for me :D

God bless pets for the joy they give us and to the people who are smart enough or lucky enough to share their short lives.

thanks Peter--- made me laugh thru the tears...

this made me think of a sign we had at the Madison Retriever club back in the 70"s, one side said " God only lets a man have one good dog and one good woman in his life"----- on he back side was written "but God allows a man trade the woman for anther good dog any time he wants."

For 38 years I had Lab, mine died last thanksgiving the same way, and its been very hard to deal with, But as i was reading this post last night, the Lady I buy my dogs from called and wanted me to set the time for picking up my next Lab, In 8 days I have my next "Candlewood " monster.
But I still feel for those who lost there friend, they ask so little and give so much...

Orange,

I feel your pain, and I'm sorry for your loss. I had a similar situation 2 years ago, when my dog of 14 years (beagle/basset mix) had to be put down for health reasons. It hurts like a mother phucker. They become part of your family, and it take a while for the pain to subside. He's in peace now.

MG :(
