HDR has economy rooms For $80 a night plus tax. $90. These rooms are not shown on their site. You have to ask for it. Economy rooms are inside rooms. HDR. Best place to stay for a newbie. No need to take taxis from SL to HDR at night. Action is all right there. Food isn't bad either.
I completely disagree.
Depending upon the newcomer's past experience with p4p, the HDR can be overwhelming. And, for the same price as a crap "economy" room, you can get a room in the modern wing of the SL. Furthermore, the HDR charges a $10.00 per chica, per room visit "guest fee." That's total bullshit IMO.
Food? Yeah, the del Mar isn't bad...if you don't mind paying too much. The restaurant at the SL has better prices and a good menu...and they offer a free continental breakfast, which the Hotel del Rey does not.
The cabs from either SL or the Amistad will still be less than what you'd pay the HDR for that stupid "guest fee."
IMHO, the Hotel del Rey is for guys who either have too much money or who are totally clueless. Even if you eliminate the SL and Amistad from consideration, there are still better/cheaper alternatives to the HDR.
* Clarion Amon. Book through Nixon at the casino. No chica fee, casino on-site, good breakfast included in room price.
* Hotel Presidente. Yes, even the stuck-up and unfriendly Presidente is a good bet when compared to the HDR. The free breakfast is excellent, the amenities are first-rate...and even the cheapest room beats the hell out of those shit-holes the HDR calls "economy rooms."
* Hotel Europa Centro (not to be confused with the Radisson property of the same name near the airport. It's an old hotel, but hey... it's chica-friendly, doesn't charge a guest fee, has a pool...and it's cheaper by 33% than the HDR's so-called economy rooms.
