You may not trust the State Department but how much more reliable are the CR figures? At last report they still could not give an exact number of tourists who entered the country in 2008.

Until someone can up with some data to support the 70-100K number I will go with the info from the U.S. Embassy.

You guys are very sensitive. relax, I was just commenting on the argument being kind of pointless, what does it really matter at the end of the day? I can't comment on the post that says I haven't been to CR, I definetely didn't post in June of this year. The mice thing sounds like something I might say, sorry but arguing over whether I have been to CR or not seems about as dumb as arguing if there is 50k or 70k americans in CR so I will let you win this one and we will just pretend I am confused as to where I have been in the past. That way I will save you the time from worrying about things that don't matter...

IMHO, $450.00/mo. for apts. like the Vistalinda looks like more than a fair buy. When you have a safe place for a month for less than what any of us would spend for a weekend, well - let's just say that keeping my ass out of any statistics report is well worth the colones.

Has anyone ever stayed at Hotel Vistalinda before? If so, what's your thoughts on the place? Also, does anyone know what bus you would take to get into town?

I think the new route of the Heredia-San Jose train goes fairly close to the Vista Linda apartments.

Give some thought to the Hotel Aranjuez which is walking distance to SL.

Not a dumb question, reading the website in the FAQs it states that they are a familiar (I think family) hotel and guests are not allowed in the rooms. So that answers that.

I don’t know if they do or do not allow friends and visitors but will try to find out. My guess, based on the above, is they would not encourage it particularly if the guest were dressed provocatively.

My GF used to live in a $200/mo apartment in Guadalupe. They are out there but you will need a local to find one for you and a $200/mo apartment will cost more for only a couple of months. Also, don't expect to be in the middle of the gulch. At this price you will be a bus ride away in a Tico neighborhood.

Also, for 200/mo, her apartment didn't come with squat. No furniture, no appliances. It was very small but a little more space than most hotel rooms. Some apartments come with minimal furnishings so don't expect to live in gringo style. Furnished may mean one small Tico bed, a hot plate and a tiny fridge.

If you want a turn-key, short term apartment with decent facilities you will have to pay for it. A couple of other places that have not been mentioned yet are Scotland Apartments and Apartments Sudamer.
