That was short lived.. so I flew back into town last week and the window was once again open and taking fixed price fares, and no longer using the maria...

not sure what changed. they charged me $19 to downtown. flat rate again.

What was the price per the Maria from the airport to downtown?

I got there mid day and there was tons of traffic. The Maria was reading over 12k by the time i was downtown. I actually prefer the flat rate compared to using the Maria.

A couple of weeks ago, at midday with light traffic, the maria was exactly c11,000.

It was my impression that since you no longer prepaid and hopped in the first taxi in line that the taxistas were competing for fares. There were a few of them just inside the first outer glass wall hustling for fares. I doubt that the majority of them cared for this and campaigned to return to prpaid fares so they could sit outside and wait for the customers to come to them.
