I'm considering booking a room at La Catalina Hotel. As anyone stayed there? How's the scene in the area? How about the nightlife? Any info would greatly be appreciated. I was in CR in May and stayed at the DR. I wasn't thrilled with the hotel.

It's very isolated. 30min+ drive to the Del Rey.
No action near the hotel.

Nothing near the hotel.

The property itself is ok.

I wouldnt recommend it.

Taxi drivers and girls don't know how to get there. Girls very reluctant to go out there. They want to charge more for travel time and taxi fare.

Very inconvienent to say the least.

We actually stayed there for FREE.

The owner owns the Copa in Jaco and had some special that included a FREE night at La Catalina.

It was one of the biggest mistakes we've made.

One of our friends had some cash stolen from his safe.

Owner said this had been a big problem at his Jaco hotel but not this one.

Thiefs have gotten hold of a master key that opens these very common room safes. Eventhough they have electronic key pads. There's a concealed key slot behind a plastic plug.

Its in the middle of nowhere, and the staff tries to rip you off. I also had items stolen out of the room.
Had mysterious charges on my credit card after settling up with cash. I would rather sleep at the airport than stay at that hotel ever again. They also didn't honor the CRT discount.
Bugs in the room and no AC. A real shit hole-must avoid at all costs!

We had a digital camera stolen at the La Catalina too. They tried to convince us that it was an outside chica. My wingman swears the camera was there after the chica left. So he places blame on the maid or someone else in hotel staff.

The same guy owns the COPA in Jaco.

We've had trouble with COPA not honoring CRT discounts too.

I'm done with the COPA and La Catalina.
