Pretty neat way to find what your download/ upload speeds are as compared with what the provider says they are. And I exclusively use a wireless modem boosted by Download Accelerator Plus. The only other part of this I understood was "CRT Happy Hour".
Calling Brothers BrentC15, Steven1 and that happy crowd.

Actual SpeakEasy Speed Test results the last year... using various servers that they offer. http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Presidente: If your near one of their Routers and have a good signal some of the middle rooms have NO signal 1.2 MB Down 256 UP

HotelM 2 years ago they were running 1.5 down but they changed services and last time I was there running at just about .5 MB down and 128 UP

Sportsmens Lodge, Just under 1MB Down 256 UP

No Report on La Amistad Sorry

When I stayed outside of Downtown both Mariott & Intercontintal run at just under 1.5 Down 512 UP

Anything I use outside of my home or office will be a crawl Just ran speed test from home

10.9 MB's Down 712 UP Atlantic BB Cable Modem 12 MB's is Max

Wireless Verizon Air Card Older Model 1.3 MB Down 512 UP

Hope that helps.

OK, here is a geek question, but one this newbie has to ask.

Has anyone done an actual bandwidth test between either the SL or LA and the USA using a site such as http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ with a North American target server? I would be interested in knowing the results, I am coming down for LD and am curious about what the connectivity might be to my NA based media server and also some USA based Citrix NFUSE sites for which I provide tech support. I'd like to know if the connection can support 768K+ download and 128K+ upload speeds. If nobody knows offhand, is there anyone who can run the test prior to September 1st? If so it is worth an adult beverage or two of choice at the September 3rd SL CRT happy hour!

Brother Sunny Isles has pretty much nailed your question. I will only add some anecdotal experience. I always stay at Sportmen's. I can always VPN to my office and use both Citrix XenDesktop and RDP to connect.

I agree with the above numbers, I always get about 1MB to 1.5MB down, and max of 128K up. The problem that I found was that there was much fluctuation in the speeds from one minute to the next.

At home, I use Time Warner Cable Road Runner (standard, not turbo). It's supposed to be max 10MB (at least that's what I pay for), but I consistently get close to 20, usually 16-17MB down, but only 512 up.

Thanks for all the great info, although the speeds will be slower than most in the states, it looks like I'll be able to do everything I need. If I work it right, the boss might never know I'm gone.

Hah! There's a few of us on CRT who've been pulling off that trick for quite a while now. I recommend SL or Amistad.. I've been laughed at by other mongers at the SL bar when I've had to work troubleshooting a production issue while sipping a Pilsen and fondling one of the chicas... ;)

There's a great thread around here describing VoiP and other voice alternatives which make you appear as if you were working from home, too.
