What do you guys do for breakfast in your flight leaves at 5:30 a.m./?

Presidente: News Cafe closed, not even coffee made

Amistad: Maybe coffee...probably not.

SL: Huh?

Castillo: Get real....

Do you guys hit 'Chelle's or Nuestra Tierra (which I believe are both open 24 hours)?

Screw the airport food; not only is it wa-a-ay overpriced (screw the gringos as a final "hasta luego" from Costa Rica), the last time I ate there (Burger King, breakfast sandwich) I was so sick I didn't think I'd make the immigration/Customs pass without vomiting. The BICE agent even commented that I looked very green/ill. Not that he was concerned...f*cking bullet-head.

Note to self: Never book a return flight for 5:30 a.m.

You can add Del Mar and Manolos to the list of 24 hour operations.

Does that mean your royally wacked if you're screaming in from Jaco for that early flight? That Denny's close by maybe? This doesn't happen often but it does happen...

Never again. I was there once. I ordered the roasted chicken. After 30 minutes, it arrived but completely cold. So I asked if they could get me a new piece that's warm... I saw them put my piece in the microwave and then brought it back hot. Suffice to say that I didn't enjoy my Swanson chicken dinner.

For those early flights, pop over to mas x menos and pick up some cheap snacks. Or hit Musmanni, the chain bakery, the night before and grab a pastry or two. I got there early last time without anything and was frustrated. Not only is it the price of airport food, but I hate eating garbage on a travel day.. Now , when I get to my layover in Atlanta, I'll splurge because there are a couple of places there I like.

Wow. I've had the complete opposite experience(s). I've eaten at Nuestra Tierra on at least 4 or 5 different occasions, and I've never had a bad meal yet. Service is a bit slow, and the prices are nothing to write home about, but I've always had a good meal there. :?

Nuestra Tierra used to be one of my favorite places, until last year.....got the same steak dinner I always get; portion was smaller, meat was tougher, price was much higher and service was terrible. :(

They weren't busy when I was there, yet I could see my steak dinner sitting on the kitchen counter, while the waiter stood around talking to the other waiters. I'm sure he could see my meal sitting there at the window. When he finally brought it to me....it was COLD. :(

Give it a try . As ID said try The little soda in the same building as the gas station. I suggest the pork chop or fish w/ rice beans and salad . add a natural refresco and pay 1,300 colones or so. very fast just check in , walk over , eat and you are back in 20-25 mins.

I thought the same thing. Prices were much higher during my last time there than previous times. I've always gotten my food hot there, but we're only talking a handful of dinners.

For an early flight, I do the simplest thing possible: Don't eat
It's really not difficult for me to have a late breakfast when I arrive where I'm going or to just skip the meal entirely.
