HDR mgmt. meddling with the free market system that has worked fine for many years can't be a good thing. Even if they are sending the "heavy traders" away it will upset the delicate balance for buyers and sellers possibly causing unecessary market volatility.
A memo has been sent to our chief economist, analyst and expert of the HDR trading floor Lee for his take on this potential disaster in the making. Meanwhile cattle futures are down 10 colones.

Pacoloco is beginning to make me feel like one of those questionable experts you see called in on Cable News Network. I'm suffering from a lack of immediate experience having not been there since January. A situation I'm trying very hard to rectify. But feel obligated to say something so that Pacoloco can maintain his credibility. Just for the record I have no experience in pork belly trading. I preferred the fat-free variety.

Limiting the girls access is not a new thing. A few years back they started requiring the girls to have a receipt from the Monkey Bar to get in. That went away in a few weeks. Last year at this time the local bureaucrats were out issuing citations for handicap access violations. The object to increase the sale of building permits. This year it's probably the fire marshal's turn to issue fines for occupancy limits so as to increase their cash flow. In short just city politics as usual.

Now what effects would this have on the sales floor. Most immediate effect is that the line will be much longer for the evening buffet at Key Largo/chorale. So must find some new place to eat my evening meal.

If the doorman at the DelRey limits access to only the best looking girls this could have a very positive effect. That is gaining access to the DelRey will become a status symbol for young women in San Jose. Do you remember the 70s and the doorman in front of the discos. A way to increase the demand for a product is to make people think you have to be important to have it. Look at all of those $600 handbags that are nothing more than a $50 handbag with some designers name on it.

Now for the all-important price. Sorry boys it's going to go up. Look at me I'm special I can get into the DelRey I'm not doing you for $40. Now for the bright side. You have a building right across the street full of women who have just had their self image deflated. I guess I'm lucky to have you offer me $40 I can not even get into the DelRey.

Now for the all-important me factor. All of you cheapskates will be over at Key Largo. I put a smiley face there so that you know I'm having fun. So don't send me all that hate mail. That would leave me with 80+ of the best looking women in San Jose to choose from. Damn I got to get a plane to San Jose.

I can't help but 'weigh' in here. The saying about the DR making money in spite of itself seems very true to me, but I don't really have an opinion as to whether this particular move is good or bad. One thing I HAVE noticed in my recent (once a week perhaps) visits is that there seem to be less gringo mongers there. Other than weekend nights, the place has a much higher percentage of locals than I noticed before. I don't think most of them are there to actually close a deal, more like just to enjoy the show (which is why I go myself).

If my subjective observations are correct, I would say that it is a result of the current economic situation in the USA. I think the DR bottom line isn't quite what it used to be, and the management is taking some stabs in the dark at changing this. If they have listened to a vocal subset of mongers they have definitely heard complaints about the fat chicks. I can see them saying 'aha, the solution is just to get rid of the fat chicks!' And who knows, maybe it will pay off for them. I don't believe that fat chicks are scaring away potential visitors, but I've been wrong before.

On a side note, I am hearing the word 'crisis' more and more often out of the mouths of working girls in reference to the economy. Perhaps the upper tier are feeling no pain, but the girls I see certainly are.

Working theory:

Bilko could be onto something here. If the place is filling up with locals they are attracting larger numbers of heavier girls. Okay I'm being unfair because I'm sure it's not just heavier girls but unattractive girls that are being excluded. Fearing that their high-end joint will evolve into a local beer hall full of blue-collar workers and cheap women management takes action.

Like any good business when things start going sour you revisit the basics. The DelRey got its jumpstart in the late 90s when it got the double boost of Key Largo closing down and the local authorities closing down all of the escort agencies. That put all those good-looking ladies of the evening on their doorsteps because they no longer have any place else to go. The DelRey quickly gaining a reputation for having the best looking women in Central America available.

Solution move the low-end portion of the business over to Key Largo. Thereby not exclude yourself from that source of income. Raise the quality level of the girls in the BM at the same time limiting their numbers to match the shrinking supply of freespending gringos. The price the girls get remains high and keeps them coming back. Which in turn keeps the freespending gringos returning. Set out to recession. Not a bad business plan.

It would make sense that if the recession in the United States is affecting our brand of terrorism it would be those of us on a budget that would be hit the hardest. With fewer low-end gringos roaming the smaller joints those girls are moving to the DelRey looking for business. Thereby upsetting the balance of the market known as the DelRey. As mentioned above the market regulators are attempting to maintain a balance.
