I am putting together my trip for this fall. I was wondering how far in advance one would need to make reservations at SL or La Amistad to assure that you get the room of your choice ?

My problem is that I will be booking a room for my buddy's first trip too and we have not nailed down the dates yet. I guess I will have to kick his ass and get him to make up his mind.

I just booked a room at SL for a trip a week from now. Not sure if I was lucky or not.

If the trip is for this fall, you can wait a while. That's the slow period for CR travel, and with the big decline in air travel in general, I'm sure even the SL won't be sold out at any time (aside from Labor Day weekend of course). Now, if you must have a certain room, then indeed book it as early as possible. Otherwise, the Amistad is sure to do another Sept-Oct special discount (25% off daily rate, 35% off for a week) so you could wait until it is announced.

As what hikertom said..if you want additional discounts, you can wait a little bit.

my habit is as soon as i have my plane resv booked, i book the hotel right away. most hotels have something like a 72 hour cancellation notice requirement to get full refund. That is more than enough time if you wish to change later for a different hotel.

I booked my favorite room this trip back in February

That of course is crazy early but I was also pretty assured of my dates so I figured I might as well. And although SL as whole stays at damn near capacity all the time, usually there will be a cancellation somewhere and you luck out although its a crap shoot to which room your getting.

I think it was said in another thread how each room is unique in its ways and over time you develop a favorite room or rooms.

So to reserve specific rooms, those should be done in advance particularly to assure that's what you get. Part of the fun of daydreaming at stop lights is I can picture exactly the room that I will be doing my partying/damage in.

Since I'm not really down with MP's my room is an important part of my trip experience.

Yep, that is like 50% of my planning right there. It is all about the atmosphere.

Before I left in January I booked May, Sept. and the following Jan. Got to have my favorite rooms @ the SL. Now all I have to worry about is gaping fluid.
