I stayed at the Royal Dutch casino and hotel a few years back and it was so bad, I checked out as soon as the Presidente had a vacancy.
It was bad as follows:
The elevator worked only some times. Otherwise it was a stair climb.
No breakfast or even coffee.
Off and on hot water.
AC did not work in my friends room even after he moved twice.
They wanted to charge my credit card $350 upon check in even though my bill was $39 a night for five nights. I had to pay cash in advance each day.
No security or desk reception area.
Noisy as hell all night long. They have an all night disco on the 2nd floo

I read some comments that they are chica friendly with no chica fee.

look I love the royal dutch almost to the point I dont like to post about it....the room I get is 301 or 306 ...the room is clean the bed is great for phucking and the bath room is good....tv if it mattters to you has about 40 enghish speaking stations ..rest in spanish (normal set up like in most san jose hotels) it has a great casino, great exchange rate on us money and the best thing is the bar ....thurs, fri and sat the place is full of ticos....many many non workers , just go up to a table and buy the table a round of beers and you will have nice young fun ticas all over you.

I have never seen someone not at the front desk ....the food I would guess sucks there but there are so many places near it, why would you even chance eating there. The maids changed the sheets on my bed everyday and gave me extra towels for the girls..( when checking in I try to find the maid that's in charge of my room and slip a few 1000's and tell her what I want...price is better than morazen about 42 or 47 a night ....

I have stayed there a dozen times and the only problem I had was I was at the HLH on check out day and was about 45 mins late on check out...the guy at the desk charged me 4000's and I threw a fit but to his credit he stuck to his guns ...so I paid it ...

I have found some working girls in the casino but I am in the casino alot and I seem to run into girls that might be looking ....had a few dudes but a few homeruns as well....I would tell you to stay there and take it as it is ...a clean cheap hotel that has some +++ if you choose to take them..

Chilimike,
That was my report in 2007:

I reported on the Royal Dutch before renovation in 2003.
It was a disappointment at that time, in many ways.

They tried to charge my charge card for a lot of dollars to block the sum, so I said I would pay cash in advance each day. Elevator was sometimes out of order. My buddy had to change rooms three times to get a working AC.
Hot water was off and on. Noisy. No breakfast or even coffee. I ended up walking six blocks to the News Cafe and paying $6 for breakfast each day.

I think the location is NOT good, right on Central Ave. Two women tried to pick my pocket right in front, although that could happen anywhere.

No guards at doors, no full time maid service, no room service....

It was worse than reported, because I cannot tell you about all the problems other guests encountered.

I would rather take a taxi from the airport than stay there.

Ace

Wouldn't that make her a "worker"?
I've been considering this hotel for my stay (August 13-16), so if you hear a dude with a Cuban accent yelling around "chilimike, chilimike", that would be me, and if I were you, I would stay away from a nut like that!
:D

Stayed there a few times and was okay with it. Is it still 40 a night? The only thing I don't like is the walking distance to the gulch. At night, it's a must you take a taxi.
