On my last trip to CR I've noticed more and more "younger" mongers. young as in early 20s. Also on the flight there I was shocked when this 18 yr old K*D sitting next to me took out and started studying the CRT map. I learned that he was 18 after i saw him with the map. He quickly put it away after he saw me eyeing the map.

I have nothing against younger generation mongers as long as they are discrete and not ruin it for the rest of us in terms of publicizing or broadcasting what we do here in CR.

I set up a quick poll but i also understand this poll will be skewed because only the members can vote. Just curious about the demographic though.

Yeah.......reminds me of several trips ago, on my flight back to the U.S., this young "Tom Cruise looking K*D," who was apparently traveling alone, was sitting beside me on the plane. I had him figured for a "young monger." Sure enough, after I "breezed" through Immigration in Charlotte, I had to chuckle to myself when I noticed this same K*D getting "grilled" by an agent, who apparently, must have sized him up the same as I did. The K*D was just standing there with a grin on his face, trying to come up with some good reason as to why he was in Costa Rica...alone.

hey Chico, this thread took me back a couple of years ago when I looked around the rey and realized I was at or above the average age of the guys in the room

Even though this has come up quite a few times over the years it does get me thinking...

With the woes mongers face falling for chicas and subsequently getting their hearts broken, is that what I have to look forward to going into my 40's 50's & 60's?

My first trip down I was still in my 20's. My next trip down will probably involve two guys in their mid-20's along with a couple of us who are 30+. The grasshoppers hear about my fun and, after their trips for work to BKK and the things they've experienced there, think a quick plane ride to a weekend of booze, gambling and women would be more fun than a trip to Atlanta to see the Cubs (we often cross paths in various US cities due to work), Cancun with our grinagas du jour, or going to the Hard Rock after a night at So. Fla clubs. Which entertains me as a boys weekend in the gulch is just what the doctor orders. Even if it doesn't happen till January.

The topic of what sort of age breakdown there was for mongers HAS come up quite a few times over the years, but this thread raises several new and interesting questions.

1) Has that breakdown changed over time? More specifically, even if the survey indicates that most of those responding still belong to an older age group, has the RELATIVE number of younger mongers increased over time from what it was? In other words, has anyone noticed noticed any trends vis a vis age of mongers?

2) Are there are QUALITATIVE differences between different age groups? Of course, these would just be stereotypes and not all members of each group would necessarily share the qualitative aspects ascribed to their group, but does each group TEND to reflect certain tendencies?

Cujo suggests that it is the OLDER guys ("in their 40's 50's & 60's") who are most apt to fall for the chicas and MAYBE that's true, but I'm NOT so sure.

A) Maybe it happens more to older guys because they don't otherwise get the more usual opportunities for young pu*sy that younger mongers also have available to them and are those more easily pussywhipped, which is what I think Cujo is suggesting.

B) Maybe it just SEEMS that way because, even though youngster mongers may be on the rise, there is still more older mongers in the hobby.

C) Maybe it actually happens more often to older mongers just because its a statistics game and it eventually happens to ALL of us at some point. You just have to be in the hobby for a while before you come across the chica that traps you (ie its a function of how ong you've been in the hobby and not how old you are and older mongers tend to have been in the hobby longer).

D) OTOH, I'd argue that younger mongers may actually be MORE susceptible to making that sort of monger mistake by virtue of their relative lack of experience in the hobby (plus perhaps because of a greater likelihood that younger guys would pursue non-pros or think there was something other than their money attracting chicas to themselves).
-------

BTW, I was 35 at the time of my first mongering trip (to Thailand) in 1992 and did my first mongering trip to CR about 8 years later (and I've never fallen into the hooker-novia trap).

On the qualitative aspects, I think men younger and younger are realizing what a BS game Gringas are playing AND realizing they have a near-by inexpensive choice. Also society in the US has changed overall in the Gringas favor and younger men are seeing the trap their elders fell into and ain't playin' that. It's not not that they are all smirky about it--maybe they are as saddened by the fact that they have to go South to find what should be readily available Del Norte as some of us are.

Orrrrrrrrr,

It could be that the internet is increasingly more available to younger people and any thought that comes to mind can be entered into google and you can find it. What K*D at 18 didn't look to find sex??!! Then, if you start making money at 18...It really doesn't take a scientist.

Now it is a good question about falling for a workin girl. Do the younger guys fall for it more than the older men? That would be a great question to answer.

Personally, I think it varies from man to man. It's either in you or not. Some guys have always fallen and other guys understand that there really is no way for it to ever work and keep that wall up. Women make the world go round, but I hardly think its the girl that influences the guy to put his defenses down. The guy allows it to happen or is naive. Of course if you see a girl several times and get to know her on a personal level, it greys up the lines and makes judgement cloudy.

Just my opinon

Pro – I think that you forgot one of the most obvious reasons why more MATURE gentleman fall for chicas. They can afford to. In other words many of them are retire, wife die and with insurance money, etc. They also may not have the family ties that a younger person will have like parents and siblings to hold them back in the USA.

Doubt it. Having started young, you're already built up more immunity to the monger lovesickness than most.

Edited to clarify what I meant.

I picked up my first Del Rey girl shortly after arriving when I was 23. I'm 27 and married now.
