After reading the posts about the decreasing numbers of "playmates" in CR, it kinda reminds me of my days in Olongapo, PI, just after the military pulled out (sorry about the pun, lol). So, the question arises...Where to next me hardy lads? :?

Dude, I don't ever think there's ever going to be a shortage of "playmates" in CR. You should have been in da PI ten years earlier, the place was hoppin! :P  I like that pun by the way! But was it really that slim of pickins after '91-'92?

I don't know..maybe LOS, DR or Colombia?

Sir, we'll cross the bridge once we get to it, not before. There's always mongers scouting other venues. Even when I'm going back to CR next month (I needed to go somewhere and plane tickets were cheaper there), that place doesn't do it for me anymore, after finding the Dominican Republic!

Agree. If the DR was to have some more favorable flight times, Id be there pretty near every weekend.

But typically Jet Blue only has the flights I want, and they hardly have any deep sales.

Decreasing number of playmates? Dewd, there is a new graduating class everyday! Here, the girls may not just flop on the plate like they do elsewhere but what fun is fishing at the fish market? Different strokes...

I want to take my first trip to the DR this year. Going to MDE in Sept, thinking about maybe Canadian Thanksgiving weekend (October) for DR, but flights to POP are outrageous from Toronto. Westjet is an option, but not until November 1, so I'm thinking maybe CR again for Thanksgiving & DR in December. Another option is Jet Blue out of Buffalo, but you're right when you say their fares are rarely discounted, I've been checking them regularly.

How does that make sense? You would go to a place that doesn't do it for you anymore to save a few dollars?

That's like going to a steakhouse and ordering liver, even though you really do not care for liver, because it is half the price of the steak.

My feeling is that once a place become popularized, especially by Gringos, it starts to lose its initial charm. Take CR. I walked in the door of the KL in about 1989 and it was like walking into something out of Casablanca. Now, the gild is off the lily, to use an expression that Bogart would have understood. But there are several factors that play into this, the size of the place, the exposure to the corrupting influence of capitalism (don't get me wrong, I am a big fan) and the overwhelming Gringo culture. Still, for every place that is becoming too popular, there are a few diamonds in the rough. Take El Salvador for instance; I went there in 93 (OK, still a long time ago) and it was virtually untouched( Except for the time a tour group of geriatric gringos stumbled into my favorite Mexican watering hole in San Salvador one time) But, you get my drift. Viet Nam is hopping, if you can stand the traffic and there are excellent places in Colombia to check out!! Fortune favors the bold!!

I enjoy both CR and the DR. It's true that the DR is more expensive to get to from most of the US, but the action is cheaper there. If you have enough action it usually, at least for me, makes up the difference.

Everything else costs about the same. I enjoy the greater variety and comraderie in CR. But in the DR I enjoy the outdoor scene in Sosua, and the fact that I find it to be friendlier, safer , and more laid-back.

Tim Bones may be right that fortune favors the bold, but not all of us can be or want to be pioneers. I have deep respect truly for those opening up new territory but frankly, I like my creature comforts. In the grand days of the Park Hotel, for example, they had the wild "anything goes" shows but did they have some place like La Amistad or the modernized SL to rest their heads? Nothing at all "wrong" with either approach--Deadwood City has its fans--each of us is just made differently with different expectations, is all. Not a hand-wringer here but I agree we may be in the waning days of the Empire in CR, especially if The Rodent has her way as expected.

Where next?

Polar Ice Cap?

There are other less popular locations in Latin America.

Hardly Undiscovered Country many threads about on ISG and WSG (Peru, Argentina, etc)

I don't understand this train of thought at all, maybe you spend too much time in CR... Maybe you like screwing different women everyday like some mantra your following.

Try a different tactic not location.

Olongapo City in 1969 ? Sh*t I revealed my age. I was a Merchant Marine /Navy Reserve young buck 3rd Mate/Ensign. The ship was a WW2 Victory Ship. We spent a week in Subic Bay waiting for a berth at the ammo dock at Cat Lai. Holy Sh*t: a walk over the sh*t river bridge brought you to beautiful downtown Olangapo City. Gin Mills owned by retired Navy Chiefs and their Filipina wives. Cheap drinks and hot young Filipina p*ssy. PRICELESS!
The highlight of the trip was we had a Kings Point Cadet Ass*ole who was a trust fund k*d that daddy did a major contribution to his representative in Washington to save Jr. from the draft with his KP nomination.
"This is no sh*t". The K*D is swaping spit with some bimbo at the best music place. My gal starts cracking up and she says; "Your friend is swaping spit with a "Billy Boy" AKA CHICK WITH A DICK..
Did we tell him ......................NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
