Just hang in there, every since the fast raise of oil in 2008, airlines seem to be very fast on moving prices up ahead of what they think oil will be going for in the furture, and it was going up every day there for a while. And then price all seats at the higher price to cover the butts. The change the price to fill seats later. I chart out the prices 30/60/90 days and 3/17/ for possible vacations and have noticed from MSP that for 3/17 the seats are still being prices at the same as 150/oil days, but around 90 then are down then back up at 60 but around 30 days out they seem to drop- at 10 or less days either thru the roof or dirt cheap- empty or full seats—
BUT THIS is MSP, and from there a special price is considered to be they do not make the passengers shovel the landing strip –
Senordos Question of what airport makes a big difference. Some airport have deals all the time other do not, my suggestion is to get into the habit of checking airfare on a regular basis and note the price for the flight you want. And not worry about it to much for a while. .Play a few with dates and you might see a pattern by following all the other posts,
I got my MDE fare that way, checking every day and playing with dates and differant sites
If oil stays at a level price then pricing will get back to a consistent level and easer to make plans if on a budget, IMHO
Do'nt worry is well worth the effort to

One site that I have just examined is:

www.compete4yourseat.com

It allows you to post an itinerary on the site, then travel agents can bid on it. You are not obligated to accept.

I tried a trial run, and chose an itintery from SJ to Indpls leaving on a monday and returning on a Monday. I received a bid of $559. When I checked the identical itinerary on Continental, it was $720.00.

It seems that the travel agents have a way of staying in the business. The report said it works better for booking an immediate advance.

I followed two itineraries for flights through June. It seems that the best prices were further out. They jacked the Continental flight up to over $700 a few days before the flight. The jet was only 2/3 full.

The price of oil seems to be jacking the price up. I've seen the price fall from above $600 to now below $600 as the price of oil falls.

There was a report on the TV news tonight that airfares are really going to real lows after about August 20 until mid November. Same for hotels.

I know in my case that is the way it worked out. I booked a trip from SJO to EWR in late August return early September. Total cost 328.62. After I heard the report decided to check it out. Same flights in mid August $483.62

I am going to overnight in Dallas on the way up. Was able to book a 4 star hotel (Westin Airport) for $44.50 plus $6.00 tax. That is cheaper then Days Inn, Ramada or Motel Six quoted.

Definitely some bargains out there if you do a little research.
