Hey, I'm going to CR after awhile away. I used to stay at HDR but want to try something new. Is the El Presidente hotel friendly to the tica *******? Someone told me they are trying to keep the chicas out and cater to non-monger customers. Any advice on this?

Thanks. LA Cowboy

The Presidente Hotel has always been the best hotel experience I have had anywhere. I am well taken care of by the staff. I use to stay there each trip now I rent an apartment. A lot of the hard core mongers on this site will really bad mouth it. It is super clean and every room has been completely remodled the last year. This is a real hotel and not the like the dive hotels in San Jose. As far as the girls go I have never had a problem. If you are bringing a really slutty girl with boobs hanging way out and a skirt up to her crotch then she will not get in. Also, they keep a computer database of any girls that put anything on the customers and they will not get back again. The type of girls I am interested in have never had a problem getting in. Also no chica fee, and only one girl at a time is allowed. I like being just outside of the 24 a day hustle. Just decide what your style is like. This is the only hotel I like staying at in San Jose.

With all due respect Markboyne paints a very pretty picture of the El Presidente and is mostly very accurate. But their chica policy is far less friendly then he describes.

Girls have been denied entrance who were far from being "a really slutty girl with boobs hanging way out and a skirt up to her crotch". The decision of the "appropriate attire" is at the discretion of the security guy on duty. Yes, you can appeal to the manger on duty but your chance of his overriding the security guy is zero to none. There are many reports here of the arbitrary decisions made by the security staff. The Presidente has made it very clear they now tolerate, rather then welcome, mongers.

Find a more friendly place. There a a lot of them so why reward those who disrespect you?

El Presidente has the most anal chica restrictions imaginable. Girls who's crimes are as heinous as leaving the facility without immediately returning their visitor badge are banned. No me gusto.

I say let them have their eco-family-tourist business and if they go bust, great! They don't need us and we sure as hell don't need them!

Plus they've dropped the CRT discount, once one of the best; no clearer sign than that saying "CRT'ers stay away!" Now the rooms are way overpriced.

Stay there if you like but for me it would be the LAST place I would want to stay. I feel the same way about ZB.
It was (IMHO) CRT money that funded both renovations. Upon completion of both, we became persona non gratis. Discounts were eliminated and ties were broken.
In 2004 and 2005 both places were party central for CRT. A far cry from today. It pisses me off because of all the great memories I have of both places.

Thanks guys for all your responses. I think I will stay away from Presidente because I like to make the choice of my partner each day without worrying about someone else's opinion of her.

there are tons of options. the SL or Amistad are but two. and many offer discounts for members.

the savings of membership are well worth the price of the card.

also, there are features like maps, tips and pics that will show you places and little darlings to look for (and avoid).

In the interest of accuracy the Presidente does not have the most anal chica restrictions imaginable. They have a dress code but they do not charge a chica fee. There are plenty of hotels in SJO who don't allow chicas or who charge an excessive fee.

They no longer have a CRT discount but they do offer a similar discount to their frequent guest. The discount is about 30%. To qualify you have to stay there 12 nights a year. I take a spa room and get it for $109. a night on weekends and holidays and $99.00 a night on weekdays. To me having a nice spacious room, with a large jacuzzi, a block from the HDR is a good deal. In addition they have a good breakfast buffett which is included in the room price. I realize everyone has a different price point and to others it may not be such a good deal.

Scubabum, I have heard complaints similar to what you posted and I wont argue against you. In addition I have other friends, former Prez customers, who have moved on over the dress code. To each his own. That's why Baskin-Robbins has 29 flavors.

The service I have received, in about 15 visits, has been excellent. The staff is accomdating an attentive. On several occasions the spa room I reseved was unavailable and they gave me a regular room for $35.00. This is more than fair. I have never had a problem getting a chica in the place. In addition many of the chicas who work at the HDR come Presidente ready. In other words they have a blouse, sweater ect.. that they can cover up with and get inside the place.

Some of the comments made on this thread, as well as elsewhere on this messageboard, were written by people who never stay there or who have not stayed there in years. I have heard very few complaints from other patrons of the Prez in this regard. Furthermore, I continue to see many of the same faces trip after trip which indicates to me that the Prez still has a good loyal clientele.

locomike, everybody is glad you have a great time at the presidente but however the tread is not that it is a wonderful hotel and you are a special customer... "but are they friendly to tica *******" and the answer is a firm no, but they are tolerated to a certain degree......some of us have played by the new rules as best one can, but after the six or seventh refusal to let in my "wifey for the nitey"..covered up,not barred, etc....i gave up on them........

In fairness I like the Presidente but with no CRT discount there are better bang for your buck hotels close by.

Osgood, I do not dispute anything you have written. My experience is different than yours. I have not had the same problems. I subscribe to what Mr. Black says "You do CR your way and I'll do CR my way". If the Prez is a pain in the ass to you than you made the right decision. It is your vacation not mine or anyone else's. Therefore, enjoy it wherever you see fit.

I am not saying the prez is the best place or has the best deals. To me it's a good deal to you or others it is not. That is up to each person individually. The old days of the $35.00 rooms are gone. In addition if I were rating the Prez, and the rating system were A) Chica Friendly; B) Chica Neutral; C) Chcia unfriendly; I would rate them a "B".

The only real complaint in this thread about the Presidente is their dress code. The problem with it is the lack of clear cut guidelines. It seems to be somewhat subjective and open to interpretation by the person on duty at the time. That makes it very difficult to adhere to. What was okay last night might not be okay tonight.

Who needs the hassle?

don't forget the napkin rationing!

the presidente is a nice enough joint.

I stayed there a few times, until I felt uncomfortable with their chica policies.

you can certainly bring chicas, at least some, there.

some like it and some don't.

it's all good.

there are tons of other choices if you have any qualms about chicas (or napkins)
