I was watching the shuttle blast off and 6 minutes into the flight they were over CR. Want that be nice RIO in 18 minutes.

Yup. Another picture perfect launch. I always enjoy - walking out to my driveway and watching the shuttles and rockets launch. It's an awesome sight. Then, about 6 or 7 minutes later, you hear the roar and feel the ground shake! That's one of the benefits of living in Central Florida. Hell... 'Cujo is so close, he can probably see the astronaut's faces as the shuttle lifts off!

No doubt. But if you forget there's a launch or re-entry, that boom can flat scare the shit out of you

sure, it's fast flying, but having to get the right connection to CR in orbit is a bitch.

That sonic boom is very loud when they come home.

It may be awe-inspiring to see them lift-off but there is always that "Challenger" possibilty. I'll stay in NJ, thanks anyway.

Brother Tiger811 must have been projecting into the future when the Chinese have completed their purchase/ subversion of CR and are launching shuttles from Isla del Oro.

The Chinese are buying everything that isn't nailed down! Don't have to look as far as CR to find Chinese purchase/subversion: Try Montana!

That's not true, the shuttle could be launched into a polar orbit but those aren't done from Kennedy Space Venter since the launch paths would be over inhabited land. Originally the Air Force was going to launch shuttles from Vandenberg AFB into polar orbits on miltrary missions (Vandenberg is where our polar launches are done since the paths go south over the ocean), but that was dropped due to the costs involved. Plenty of satellites are launched into polar orbits, they're the only ones that cover the entire earth.

That sonic boom phucks with the people who live here. Since landings are not as huge a story as launches , you really dont know when to expect the boom. I have over the years variously thought: was that an earthquake?, did my neighbor finally snap and shoot his nagging wife between the tits?, " Its the phucking russians!, " Did the propane tank down the street blow up again? to the most common response: " What the phuck was that?"
