I've never stayed at HDR either (and don't care who does) but if you're going to push the negatives about gulch hotels then why not get honest and post the negatives about all of them?
Every place has issues including the SL and LA, no secret to some and several members have stated (to me) they'll never stay at one of those establishments again and all things considered, who could blame them.

I hear ya Paco but I think I may be misunderstood. Once again, the negatives that I am "pushing" have nothing to do with the hotel as a business.

I don't mention other negatives about gulch hotels because there is no hotel like the DR. My comments aren't to promote other hotels either. So any comment on that is missing the mark. I'm talking about the perceptions of the chicas towards mongers if staying at the DR. Nothing less...nothing more.

I've stayed at the DR 3 times (in 03, 05, and 07). In my opinion, one of the main things that draws guys there over and over is the fact that they enjoy being the hunted for a change. Here in the states, men are accustomed to having to do the hunting, courting, pursuing, etc. So it's great to be able to go someplace for just a few days that offers a complete role reversal. For a lot of guys who've spent their whole lives wining and dining gringa cunts, it's an absolute fantasy come true. Some guys get over the novelty of it after staying there 2 times and need a change of pace while others can't get enough of it, regardless of room rates, cleanliness, chica attitudes, etc. I forget who said it, but someone on here summed it up best by saying "you do CR your way and I'll do it my way." Touche.

7 days after my first trip to CR and the infamous HDR, I gave in due to withdrawals and booked my next trip, which happens to be this coming weekend =)

This time, I am staying at Amistad. Question for you pros, if one does not stay at HDR, does one go and linger at the HDR to shop?

I think one of the reasons that people use as the best reason for a first timer to stay at the HDR is really the biggest negative. That is that everything is there so you don't have to go anywhere.

On my first trip to CR I wanted to get out and see everything I could so I could make my own decision on where to stay for a return trip. That's how I found SL. To me, staying in a place where I would hardly leave on my first trip would be a wasted first trip. But as has been said, everybody has their own preferences.

I disagree. Before I went on my first trip I knew about Sportsmans, Little Havana, Amistad, etc. I rented a car when I was staying at HDR and when to Arenal for a day. Just because someone stays at HDR doesn't mean they don't see the light of day.

If you want to take your shot at the hottest P4P women in Cost Rica you'll go there to shop. You can take the easy way & wander to the Sportsmans & take a decent chica for 70-80usd. If you want the best CR has to offer head to the Delrey @ 10pm any thur/fri/sat.

Just on sheer volume the dr/kl has the sl beat hands down. Maybe 20 or so chicas @ SL, depending on your arrival time 100+ @ the DR/KL

Lee pretty well sums it up. Some just want to whore and get drunk. You can do all that very safely at the HDR.

Polina is in charge of house keeping.

I stay on the 6th floor in 605 and have never had a problem at all.

I wouldn't expect for anyone to have any "problems" staying there. I also conceede that for pure numbers the HDR cannot be beat.

I asked a loaded question in the Hotel M thread that Orange was nice enough to answer. His response was dead on, and eventhough it doesn't apply to the DR necessarily it does give you a hint that women will make assumptions based on you staying at the DR.

It's always a question of taste and style. While I would never stay at the DR myself I can easily understand why someone would want to. I just salute the availability of different options. To each their own.

Besides, the more people that stay at the DR the easier it is for me to book into my favorite haunts! :D

Polina: thank you for the ladies name I feel particularly bad for not being able to remember it. One evening she spent two hours chasing down my laundry when no one else could find it.

My personal favorite in rooms is 602. Corner balcony, far from the casino area and gets the afternoon sun. I like taking an afternoon nap on the end of my bed with the sun coming through the doors to keep me warm.

Cujo'S:

I find your comments about the ladies thought provoking. We should start another whole thread just to discuss different attitudes towards the girls. The impression I get is that you consider it something of a contest where you must gain every possible advantage. Remember that's just my impression. Myself I'm very willing to make a mistake. Learn from it and move on. I've gotten fairly good at turning a potentially bad experience into something worthy of a good story. To be a bit crude for the moment a good bitch Phuck is good for the soul every now and then.

To completely change the subject for the moment. If you're in need of a little stress relief of something to evoke pleasant memories. I would recommend a Tuesday afternoon's experience of a couple of episodes of Fit TVs Shimmy. It's a belly dancing class with very soothing music, lovely young ladies dancing and the calming voice of the female narrator.

Back to the lady thing for a moment. I find that I do very well with the DR partially because I'm willing to put in the time sitting there and observing. You can spend much time talking to a lady who is perfectly willing to tell you whatever you want to hear. Observing her behavior among her peers will tell you form more about her than any conversation.

Thought provoking indeed Lee....

No contests here. My comments are derived from the many various conversations I've had with those chicas once we were back at the room at SL.
I'm also willing to sit there and shoot the shit with the fellas while observing the chicas...

If there's one thing I've tried to be sure of, is the quality of experience I'm going to have with a girl. Like I said, its been assumed (and rightfully so) that hotel M chicas would assume you've got bank if your staying there and is at least partially why they charge so much.

This doesn't apply with the DR necessarily but there are assumptions made, all of which I want to stay away from. And although I'm in no contests, I don't want to come across as "just another spoke on the wheel" either...

Again, these are just my thoughts..

Cujo-

At first I thought you had a really big problem with DR but after reading the thread I understand that was just part of it. Let's face it. What you wear, how you act, what you drink, and what you say are all things a woman use to judge you. Not just in CR but everywhere you go. Now these working girls at the DR will certainly have preconceived notions about you where ever you stay. Of course the DR says one thing and staying at other hotels says something else.

What's debatable is what exactly do a lot of the girls think about guys who stay at the DR and then what they think of a guy who stays at the SL or Amistad or HLH. I don't know about you guys, but I'm a big fan of first hand info. I'm gonna have something fun to talk about with these chicas and I'll get back to you on this.

I'm willing to bet that it will be mixed but odds are you 'll be looked at as a freshman if you stay at the DR. That's nothing bad, just a guess....

Agreed. The DR is a SHIT-HOLE. Very few of the girls are actually worth cien, and 99% are hardened pros. A few good ones here and there, but for the most part they are clock watching, overweight, rude slobs. They priced themselves right out of the market. I thought CR was VERY expensive for a third world country. I still had fun, but wouldn't do it more than once every few years.

This is why so many guys are choosing MDE or rio.

Cujo'S wrote:
As stated earlier, from time to time I will get PM's concerning staying at DR since I'm usually one to try and deter guys from staying there.

Now, my reasons extend beyond it being a shitty hotel. Forget room quality, chica fees, and so on. Those things guys will be able to see for themselves..

My #1 reason for advocating against staying at the DR is because I feel it makes you more of a mark or target.

It's so "gringo cliche'" to stay at the DR and the chicas eat it up because;

1. one hour WILL mean 1 hour so she can go downstairs and get back to talking to her friends.
2. All the world see's you and your chica heading upstairs. Why I frown upon this is because I feel it gives you less bargaining power.
3. Being surronded by the DR 24/7 I feel gets guys in line to conform to the "rules" of the chicas.

Beyond that I feel its extra silly to stay there as a newbie. Not knowing what to expect in a pool of sharks likely will get you burned..

Note that this is only my opinion but I wanted to put it out there. Personally I like DR, but just to shop for girls and plant seeds. Oh yea, the cappuccino isn't too bad either..

 Another CR Sucks member. If that's how it was for you then I wouldn't return either but since it's not that way for everyone maybe all the "clock watching, overweight, rude slobs" aren't the problem.
