Seek and you shall find. You're a computer geek: a Boolean search should be a piece of cake for you.

Hint #2: There are TWO Trip Reports forums.

And I hope you enjoy my meager efforts.

Ok, guys getting this bitch back on track.

First – Miamiheller, I apologize for calling you an ass kisser and using you as an example (see second paragraph). It was just a trick to prove my point. I did find it the first time.

Secondly – this is the whole point of my comments above. You did not had to get the link, might a fact, you should have told me to Phuck off. Just because I ask you to do it, you did not have too.

Newbies – again getting this bitch back on track. Read, investigate and then make up your mind. Too much interference from so many others will drive you crazy. Go and find out for yourselves. One of my main statements on life is “Rock the boat. Buck the system. Question the status Quo”. Do the same here.

Just because somebody says that the HDR stinks when thousands of mongers stay there trip after trip should make you think. Take everything on the forum with a big grain of salt and then enjoy yourselves.

Caveat - Now don’t be an idiot and do things that everyone agrees should not be done.

Lee – you owe me on this one because I’m doing all this homework for you. :P :P :P

Reasons why I would choose to stay at the HDR;

1 – It is my first trip and I want to stay at the belly of the beast
2 – My trip is 4 days or shorter
3 – I do not speak Spanish. Fewer natives to see and interact with
4 – It is where the chicas are!!!!!
5 – Casino, food, beverages, all under one roof
6 – It is where everybody goes. CRT, NON-CRT’s, everyone

I did stay at the HDR for my first few trips in '05 and '06, and now realize that it wasn't necessary and a mistake. Back then it was charging $10/day for WiFi access along with the $10 chica fee and $10 breakfast buffet at the Del Mar. I finally got fed up with it all and tried the Presidente (when it was CRT-friendly) then the Clarion Amon and never went back. Now I'm in love with the Amistad. You don't need these training wheels for San Jose, since it's so gringo-ized it's very user-friendly for newbies. Hell, just walk down Ave. Central and you'll find a whole bunch of American fast-food places, that's a perfect comfort cushion.

Now, for places like Colombia or Peru an HDR-like cocoon would be most useful.

I don't like the Del Ray yet on my walks I have to stop in a couple times to just watch and take it in. It is a unique place I think everyone should at least see. My reasons are simple most of my mediocre experiences have been pulled from there and two I am way to laid back for the Billy Mays style of hooking.

I also think all the threads are full of useful info for newbie and semi newbie alike (me) I will say the chest thumping is what typically ruins the threads. That get old very old.

I as most always have had a blast in CR mainly because of this board and the members who freely share useful and safety related experiences.

Like someone said we are all free to choose it is after all my money, but I hope all subjects never get to old to rehash as we all need a tune up before a trip and places and people change from trip to trip.

Thanks and no offense intended.

Anybody else catch the ads in A.M. Costa Rica this week?

The Del is offering discount up to 20% under the guise of "Green Season".
For you vets out there, have you ever seen this before? Is business that slow for the Pink Palace that they have resorted to advertising and offering a discount? What's next :?: Ads in AA inflight magazine alongside one of the many, Americas Greatest Steakhouse ads

Lee-

Thanks for the response. I can always appreciate a sensible discussion. I feel again that I need to say the derivation of this post comes from me receiving PM's by 4 separate members asking me my thoughts specifically about staying at DR.

Your counter points are appreciated and hopefully new members can derive their own opinions while sifting thru the side tracking.

Now quickly to some of your comments.

I thought it was interesting that you said the girls like it when you stay at the DR and that "yes, you are looking at it from their view point"..

I concede the chicas that work at DR would prefer that gringos stay there. That kind of goes with my point when I say it makes you a mark or target. Trust, I don't have to be convinced those chicas wished we all stayed there..

I completely agree that the way you carry yourself makes or prevents you from being a target. To that end a newbie might fold like a card table under the pro circuit of chicas. Lets not even talk about if said monger is drinking or otherwise buzzed like a motherfucker..

My original post was to kill a few birds with one stone as well as give my perspective (from a mongering stand point) as to why I wouldn't stay there. I certainly cannot speak from experience as obviously I haven't stayed. So that's why I stayed away from things like room quality, chica fees, etc.. I didn't even want to go there.

Perhaps I could PM you some time as to why I feel it puts the chicas in position of power bargaining and other so that my response isn't a phone book.

I mean when the dust settles, I'm all about the fellas anyway. I wouldn't want a thread I started to be perceived as a way to promote another hotel. Not really sure how a mistake like that could be made since I'm not advocating one hotel over another but rather my thoughts on one hotel.

And although I disagree with some points you made (particularly chicas point of view) thanks again for the retort 8)

You constantly bash the place and steer people away yet never stayed there? :?

So where are you guys going to stay after you send everyone to the SL and Amistad and you can't get rooms there?

Personally I don't care if anyone loves or hates HDR. My first trip, being a noob, I stayed there because it IS the lions den. It was baptism by fire for me and I LOVED it. Sure the hotel wasn't as upscale as some of the rest but I went for a reason, to be in the midst of the ticas. If that made me a target, so be it.

I am planning on going back down next weekend or possibly the weekend of Aug 6. Anyone want to be my wingman? Last time, I went solo.

That's correct, I've never stayed there. I can see how my comments come across as "bashing the DR" but for those who see it differently might see me not taking a position of bashing the hotel, or its staff, cleanliness, (sound familiar?) My comments are more geared towards the mongering aspects of chicas knowing your staying there, what assumptions and tricks are formed on their parts and so on.

If the rooms are a dump that's irrelevant just as how the food is or who's at the craps table. So hopefully this clears it up a little. Once again, I am a fan of DR. Its without a doubt the place I pull most of my sessions out of. Its also a great place to bullshit with the fellas with a bigger selection of chicas around...

Yea, all that has nothing to do with it....:|

And I'm not worried about where to stay on my next trip. So if SL and LA are booked, that's great for Bill and Matt. So if I'm not worried, why should anyone else...

For my two cents worth the DR is what it is... A place for newbies to stay their first 2 or 3 times in CR. After that it is a little cliche. Totally love the DR, not bashing/
