My last trip I purchased a Mio P550 Pocket PC (integrated GPS) loaded Garmin software and the EZ find map of Costa Rica, some translation software and skype and a currency converter.
The gps tracked my position as we flew from Florida to San Jose really well.(like it really affects the aircraft)
the GPS worked great in San Jose and on both coasts. I highly recommend it.
It's nice not to have to rely on directions from anyone.
The GPS software is available at

Good find. Be aware this site has an embedded link that takes you to FileFactory.com, the file is about 40 Mb and takes (on FileFactory's free component, and with a high-speed connection) about 15 minutes to download.

I agree that it is low risk to the aircraft.
For you, you are taking a BIG risk.
The Feds believe (and rightfully) that inflight use of a GPS is what a terrorist action might involve.
Trust me, don't do it.
Those guys will really ruin your day, if you are caught.

...and don't think you can identify inflight Air Marshal's by sight either, and as Brother T&V said, they will take you down. And if they don't a zealous Flight Attendant can arrange to have you met at flight's end. Not even close to worth the risk.

The map of CR is about 8mb, garmin mobile xt is about 12.7 MB, you also need garmin mapsource 45.7 MB and mapsource toolkit under 1mb.
Now you have all you need for GPS in CR or anywhere else (with proper map)
Most people don't use garmin GPS units they use generic units like MIO's because the they can put any gps program they like on it, TomTom is great in the USA, IGO isn't bad either.
All are available thru PPCwarez or Gpsunderground.
Always check files using Anti-virus and spyware checker.
